Hopefully suckers do not fall for it and vote his ass out. Romney did the same thing when he ran in the presidential primaries, basically he pretend that he was no longer a liberal so he can get votes.

Right on, on all points! McCain has been flip flopping on every issue since the days of his exaggerations of his POW experience, his "Top Gun" flying days and how he "turned down an Admiral star"! I never understood who was voting for this guy.

    It's "Mavericky".

With all due respect to Navy, and his insistence that he "feels the pulse" of the Navy... I think he is as close to today's sailors' real pulse as my father was to my generation. Each successive generation has been hugely more tolerant than their parents'. Everybody who was ever in the military knows damn well that this has been the reality for scores of years and all branches have tolerated gays and lesbians. If this law was repealed I don't think any branch of the military would have an insurmountable time with it. Well, maybe the Marines.

I like him for this quality - many politicians don't ever reconsider their stance.

at least McCain puts the decisions where they should be - in the hands of those who impliment and make the rules and run the show.
Funny how that used to be called "flip-flopping" or changing your position with the political wind. Funny how when repubs do it it's a good thing, they're just becoming more wise and adjusting their position. But when dems do it, it shows that they are weak and willing to change position to get elected.

    Ever notice that?

The people who vote for him are suckers who think that a republican no matter how ****ed up he is or how liberal he is.They think that somehow a liberal republican is better than any democrat any day of the week. They are to chicken to risk loosing the seat to a democrat even thought by voting for a liberal republican every time they are basically getting the same thing as though they voted for a democrat. Some voters just toe the party line regardless if their party is right or wrong.

And some voters are just stupid enough to fall for a politician's tricks. Those politicians are like telemarketers most people do not fall for their tricks but enough people do in order to make it worthwhile.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I wonder if McCain's growing battle for his Congressional seat has anything to do with it?
Mullen gave his personal views, not the views of his station or the views of the military as a whole. So I dont see what your point here is exactly?

How does one give the views of the military as a whole? We've heard from all the top brass, do you need every private to agree as well?

No, I would accept an official position from Mullen, not his personal views.

How does it become an "official position"? Seriously, I'm not trying to be snide. I really don't know. He apparently has the support of the Secretary of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief... what else does he need to make it "official"?
