Top uniformed officer: Gay ban should be lifted

I didn't look at any these are just the ones I have seen from my past unit. I don't doubt that some have been kicked out that wanted to stay in. I also belive that some of those that say they didn't want out actually did.

Is that assumption based on your extensive analysis of this issue?

General General Mattis was touring a training exercise that my unit was involved in and he stopped by my squad. He wanted to give some enlisted Marines a chance to ask him a question. I asked him about the Iraqi police and he noticed I wasn't wearing any rank.

"Are you a private?"

*I look down at my blouse where my rank should be*

"Oh! No, sir, I'm a lance corporal. I don't wear my rank when I train because my flak pushes it into my collar bones."

*He looks somewhat puzzled, then grins slightly*

"Huh. Okay, well to answer your question..."

This was my squad leader...

I to have seen this happen but in defense of the counter argument, I guess it depends on when we all served. I different set of circumstances in my day.

Do you really think that no gay person has ever wanted a quick way out of the military and decided to use DADT as his way out. I have seen straight people use it so why would gays be any different.

If they get rid of the DADT they would then have to address the UCMJ.

So you are saying that in order to change military regulations, Congress would have to change military regulations? Brilliant insight!

The congress has to address the DADT. In 1950 under Truman the congress passed the UCMJ so it takes congress or the commander in chief to change it.

Good luck to gays on depending on democrats.

It's like we have a choice between the party of stall or the party of crawl.

I watched the hearings of the Armed Services Committee this morning on DADT held on Tuesday and Senator McCain had a listing of 1100 Flag and General Officers that were against the repeal of DADT...That sort of trumps Mullins and Gates.......Looks to me this is going to be a fight between the Right and the left in the Senate and I was glad to see Senator Webb From Va. a democrat step up and join the people on the right on his issue..........
