'Iran will deliver telling blow to global powers on Feb. 11'

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the nation will deliver a harsh blow to the "global arrogance" on this year's anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

"The Islamic Revolution opened a window to liberty for the human race, which was trapped in the dead ends of materialism," Ahmadinejad said during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

"If the Islamic Revolution had not occurred, liberalism and Marxism would have crushed all human dignity in their power-seeking and money-grubbing claws. Nothing would have remained of human and spiritual principles," he added.

Ahmadinejad said that in the three decades of its history, the Islamic Revolution had inspired some great developments in the world.

The Iranian president made the remarks as the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution approaches.

Iranians are expected to pour into the streets on February 11 to celebrate the occasion in public rallies across the country, as they have done annually over the past three decades.
Is Ahmadinejad being literal about some kind of physical military attack which would be suicidal if we had a president we could count on. Or is he making a threat about some economic plan he has in mind.

It could just be more talk or much more dangerous like setting off a nuclear bomb.

I know there is a lot of talk about about how long it takes for a nation to build their first bomb but it's BS because with the right amount of material any 8th grader could tell you how it works just from watching the History Channel program on the Manhattan Project.

This is a dangerous game they are playing, but it may end up working for them, perhaps without too many negative consequences. However, with nuclear weapons, the approach of Iran has been utterly ridiculous. No one wants to wage war, especially nuclear war, to secure the world from yet another nuclear power, but being incredibly secretive about their designs is one dangerous way to be taken seriously. Fear and overwhelming secrecy is detrimental to responsible nuclear strategy.

Not really. I think Bush should have took that attitude more often.

You'll notice Iran didn't make stupid threats like this when Bush was prez.

What I find interesting is this:

Iranians are expected to pour into the streets on February 11 to celebrate the occasion in public rallies across the country, as they have done annually over the past three decades.
I'm going to guess that the protester-per-celebrater ratio will be pretty high.

I'm betting this is just bluster, that their celebrations will be a "rejection by the people of Iran" against the claims of the world.

The worst case scenario would be the Iranians detonate a nuclear weapon to show they are nuclear armed....

I take that back, that would be stupid of them. If they test a nuke the Israelis would be dropping bombs that night on them. They announce they not only have nuclear arms, but have them deployed and read to go. THAT'S IMHO the worst case scenario.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

We don't have to put it into those terms, but we should certainly send him a strong message, one that says we're not afraid of you, at all.
