While I do not think these people intended any harm, they should have contacted the correct authorities before even trying something this crazy. What they did makes them look guilty. You do not take kids and try to sneak them out of a country. Hopefully it all turns well for these people. I think they had good intentions just went the wrong way about it.

i'll withhold comment until we know what really happened. you can't discount what one of those children said, that she thought she was going on a holiday, and her parents were not dead.
 
As the Haitian President put it today, they didn't arrest Americans, they arrested kidnappers.

Oops! I just watched one of the kids ask a UK reporter to contact her parents. She wrote the name and number down and the reporter called them. The little girl simply asked them to come and get her, though that may take a while.
