Verdict reached in abortion slaying trial - Crime & courts- msnbc.com

He's been found guilty of first degree murder. good.

WICHITA, Kan. - Jurors reached a verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a Kansas abortion provider.

It took the jury 37 minutes Friday to reach the verdict in confessed killer Scott Roeder's trial. It was to be read late Friday morning.

Roeder has said he shot Dr. George Tiller on May 31 to protect unborn children.

I doubt anyone here would disagree with that verdict. Even those who think abortion is murder wouldn't support allowing vigilantes to take the law into their own hands.

oh, there are some here who vehemently disagree.

25 years. justifiable my ass.

Prosecutor Nola Foulston is trying to get it as a "hard 50", meaning no parole, he serves 50 years.

This was clear cut, and he absolutely deserved the conviction, and the time he will serve.

What a scumbag. This guy took the life of, in every aspect of the law, an innocent person and in the proccess gave up his own as well, all in the name of religious ideology. How is this guy any different from terrorist who beieve that their actions are righteous and in the name of God?

I threw up a little when this guy was expalinging the details of the murder he commited in court while the Tiller family members wept over their loss.

I threw up a little in my mouth as well when the guy was explaining the details of how he murder the doctor. He had this smug face on all threw the trial like he was going to get away with it, or something I am glad the Jury proved him wrong.

Probably won't make much difference if it's 25 or 50 years. It's doubtful if he'll ever walk out of prison.

Your exactly right. Premeditated murder in the name of religion = religious extremism. I hope he dies in jail, and I hope our country doesn't become complacent to acts of christian extremism on our soil just because they don't seem like terrorism.

This is good news. I personally think that he should be confined to a mental facility because everything about him practically oozes irrational and mental defect and I think the death penalty is not appropriate in that case.

But I am glad he was found guilty and will be removed from any chance to harm anyone else.

To the best of my knowledge, the death penalty is not going to happen here. He is going to get a mandatory 50 years, with either a possibility of parole in 25 years, or no possibility, depending on how they do it. Either way, he dies in prison most likely.

That's good then. I do hope he is given access to some kind of therapy and counseling along with it, though it may be a waste of resources if he is to die behind prison walls.

They have access to all kinds of stuff like that, it's pretty amazing. Number one employer in my hometown is prisons, we have 5, so I know a few guards and they have incredible stories.

I wished that he would have gotten off with a slap on the wrist seeing how the man put a stop to a baby serial killing monster. Maybe he will get a lawyer one to try to overturn his conviction.

Groucho, meet James. Proof positive no matter how obvious it is that something is a crime, some one will find a way to excuse it.

Guess you're right. It's not really murder if you're doing it for your God, I suppose. (Where have I heard that before?)

Probably from somewhere in the middle east would be my guess.

Allah is not God, silly goose.

It was also a common defense for barbaric actions around the 13th-14th centuries...you know, that time we call the Dark Ages.

He can claim all he wants about his intentions, but the road to hell is paved with those. He is a murderer, and now he will pay the price for his crime. Let his punishment be a lesson to other would be murderers.

That's a wonderful sentiment until you realize that Scott knowingly accepted this conviction and decided that killing Dr. Tiller was worth the punishment.

You know when you're willing to take the points to cuss someone out on this board? Same thing.

Same thing, except one penalty is three amorphous points on an internet chat board, while the other is 50 years in pound me in the ass prison. Oh, and in one, you call another pseydonymous guy a "douche" and in the other, you shoot a guy in the ****ing face.

I agree, on the board someone earns a cussing out, while in real life a shady doctor skirts the law to kill very lat term children.

As I've said many times before, I'm glad Dr. Tiller is dead. He was a monster and the world is better off without him.

I am the person who thanked the offending post of the forum member who received points for cussing someone out.

Anyone who considers themselves anti-abortion because they view the unborn no different than someone outside the womb should view Scott Roeder as a man who killed a evil sick sadistic child killer.
