I know, which is why the redirecting of the money was a smart move. I just don't have a lot of faith in it though. In 4-8 years when the next administration comes to power, it could just as easily restart plans for a manned mission to the moon. I mean really, what is the point of going to the moon right now when we can send any number of robots there to do the task?

Yeah, I understand that it would be a symbol of America, etc etc... but that was done in the 60's and that was a different time, and there was more at stake between Russia and the U.S. then. The rivalries now are mostly economic and resource driven. The moon will not be a practical solution to that.

Agreed, too many Americans seem to want to throw money around at symbolic ****, rather than looking to more immediately practical matters.

There are benefits to such endevours as going back to the moon. However, people like yourself, prefer to waste money on poverty ensurement schemes like welfare, UHC and other non-sense.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Nope. The costs were already planned. This was not a cost-cutting move in any way.

And we got to the Moon the first time for MUCH less.

It's hardly only symbolic, though the symbolism is important, too. The advancements in technology are legion, as already discussed.

But it is presently a one party state... they are called the democrats and they are presently in power... actually most of them have been in power for 3 years... but they are totally exempt from blame from any of the problems that we now face.
    Obama lied... Ambassador Stevens died!

    This is kinda sad.

My goal has always been to get a job at NASA. If it becomes just one more climate research facility, then I'm going to have to find another goal.

Didn't Obama say something along the lines of "putting science back in its rightful place"? So to him that means making our space organization another lie spouting climate research facility? So I guess all of America must suffer the loss of being a space-fairing nation so we can bring just a little peace of mind to the AGW religion and the lie behind it... Way to go Barry O.

Yeh, it's totally a one-party state. That's why Obama couldn't get his ideal health care program passed!

Maybe, but there's no guarantee that there will be useful technological spin-offs from this particular mission. It's not like "Ok guys, on this mission we're going to get X number of civilian spin-offs and other advancements." Sure they probably would make advancements in the space flight/moon landing programs because the Shuttles are on their last legs so they'd probably have to design new ships, but aside from that...
