"Inviting target"? Do you think these terrorists will only attack the city where the trial is held?
Whether they're being paranoid or not is irrelevant to the fact that those monies would be spent.

A drop in the bucket compared to the trillions we've wasted in Iraq.

Why do you need to compare it to Iraq? Can't we just look at the situation based upon its merits alone?

No; because generally, those complaining about the expense of this trial don't have a problem with the expense involved with Iraq.

Bottom line: money is not the issue. It's just an excuse to use against a process they oppose.

So, we can't look at the situation based upon its merits alone? We must compare and contrast it to whatever policy best highlights the hypocrisy of some unspecified group of people?

    Seems needlessly convoluted...

    This logic is terribly faulty.

First, regardless of what you think of the merits of the Iraq War, it is indisputable that those expenditures were accompanied by results. In contrast, the expenditure of this $400m would have no different result than if the individuals were tried in military court or even kept indefinitely.

Second, the proposal to declare war on Iraq did not have an alternate proposal that would have yielded identical results for one half or one quarter of the cost. In contrast, these trials could be moved to alternate locations and save a large portion of money without losing one benefit.

Third, the entire idea that because someone supports one particular expenditure they cannot object to another expenditure as wasteful is just asinine on its face.

for whatever reason, obama now admits he was WRONG to try to move ksm to manahattan

    he BACKED DOWN, didn't he?

    why did obama back down?

this was a huge political defeat for the admin, it was mainstay on all the sunday talks (naturally), and consensus opinion was that obama/holder's misplay on this question really hurt

the trying of ksm in civilian court and the mirandizing of mutallab played a very central role in scott brown's win in massachusetts

it is what it is, a devastating and very embarrassing setback

and it reveals vividly obama's way out-of-the-mainstream views concerning terrorists and terrorism

    when's gitmo gonna close?

No problem with that, as long as we leave the expense out of it. I don't want to hear talk about how expensive these trials will be when we've already wasted trillions of dollars on this so-call war on terrorism. Trials are part and parcel with this "war".
