NYT: ?Tea party? disputes hurt convention - The New York Times- msnbc.com

The convention, to be held in Nashville in early February, made a splash by attracting big-name politicians. (Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech.) But some groups have criticized the cost — $549 per ticket and a $9.95 fee, plus hotel and airfare — as out of reach for the average tea partier. And they have balked at Ms. Palin’s speaking fee, which news reports have put at $100,000, a figure that organizers will not confirm or deny.

this is interesting......for the people, as long as the people fork over the dough.

I live in Nashville and I've been to the hotel they are hosting the conference at. It is one of the nicest hotels in Nashville and thus will have a larger price for admission. Conferences aren't cheap, I wonder what the cost was per delegate with the Copenhagen climate conference (party). Plus there are no more tickets, the event has sold out :) Maybe high demand also contributed to a higher price?

a grass roots tea party conference shouldn't be held at the nicest hotel with prices out of reach for the faithful. but hey, it's only politics.

A Tea Party for the wealthy elite.

It's also one of the largest hotels, perhaps they booked it because they needed the space it provides. Regardless, this price doesn't seem very high compared to other conventions, and who knows, maybe some of the admission price goes to funding the Tea Party movement.

Couldn't they had a fish fry instead?

I Love it. A Teabaggers convention. It would be worth the price of admission just for comic relief alone.

Why not?

True grass roots never attend these events, the would be leaders attend. This is the "stalks", not the "roots" of the movement. After all, protests against liberalism aren't "astroturf".

What it does is ensure only those serious about the movement attend.

People with the foam fingers and beer-can hats won't be going.

That... is amusing to no end that you so think this.

Obama, despite claiming he actually understands working folks and claiming that our economy sucks, has enough time on his own plate to make an appearance among the effete snobs in Hollywood who are going to drop $28,500 a plate for gourmet food at fundraisers for the candidate.
Obama To Appear At $28,500 Per Plate Dinner by: admin | American Conservative Daily

Just for comparison, I think $600 a ticket is a bargain.

I thought you said there were tea baggers and tea party peoples.....

Your true colors are once again showing.

Why not hold these at a Fair Ground? lots of space and parking. Make it affordable to the voting public. Palin is a average red blooded American Girl..um not at $100,000 for a speech. All Palin slammin aside, serious for a moment...If she loves America so much why not speak for paid travel and basic expenses plus say $10,000. I am not saying she should work for free but still....

Shouldn't they be?

If they can afford to spend $28,000 for a dinner and a show, they're the prime targets of the Robbin' Hoods seeking to steal their money.

I bet those people are more clever than letting the government steal money.

Then go to a "Teabaggers convention".... maybe one of the attendees will dip you.

Ever hear of a town called Boston?

Ever hear about the "Tea Party" they had there in 1773?

See the resemblance?

lol....the people with foam fingers ARE the movement, aren't they?

well, v, no way is palin worth what obama is worth.

True, you couldn't pay me to attend an Obama Teleprompter Reading Session, but I'd go to a Palin speech for free, any day.

I love that North Country Accent....and the fact that she talks American ideals, not Marxism.

Even when it's Marxism without the "negro dialect", it's still Marxism. Who in their right mind would pay to hear that?

I have heard of Boston...Red Socks right????

Heard of their Tea Party which had a legitimate use. Also know that many Americans turned to Coffee during that time as a way to rebel.

I see a group of fools trying to portray themselves in the same light as our ForeFathers. They easily could have came up with their own name and movement without using Tea party...
