Clinton urges Internet freedom, condemns cyber attacks

Clinton urges Internet freedom, condemns cyber attacks - Yahoo! News

These Statements by H.R.C. seem to be at odds with the ideas we have heard from Obama's inner cabal members who want to take control of the the internet and maybe it's content as they clearly want to do with Talk Radio.

Always keep in mind the masterful use of double speak the emanates form this White House.

I for one welcome the portion of her statement where she said: ""We stand for a single Internet where all of humanity has equal access to knowledge and ideas."

This is a good thing, I wish we could trust this administration to pratice what they preach.

We'll have to wait and see.

WASHINGTON/BEIJING (Reuters) U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday called for an unfettered worldwide Internet and urged global condemnation of those who conduct cyber attacks, as China sought to contain tension with the United States over the hacking and censorship of Google.

"A new information curtain is descending across much of the world," she said, calling growing Internet curbs the modern equivalent of the Berlin Wall.

"We stand for a single Internet where all of humanity has equal access to knowledge and ideas," said Clinton in a major address that cited China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt among countries that censored the Internet or harassed bloggers.

Countries that built electronic barriers to parts of the Internet or filtered search engine results contravened the U.N.'s Universal Declaration on Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of information, she said.

Trying to control the internet in order to keep it "free". That is the worst kind of double talk I have ever heard of. The internet will remain free as long as it's in the hands of the people who shape it. I don't want the government giving backdoors to lobbyiests and other agencies who want their own piece of the pie.

I am amazed that everyone on this site isn't up in arms over Obama's intentions to take control over the internet because it Obama gets his way the Liberals will have only themselves to argue with. Obama's goal is to shut down all opposition and his inner circle of radicals have made no secret to of their intentions.

Obama will ay he is opposed to the Fairness Doctrine, but we know he [uts people in power who will do what he really wants while he claims they are following their hearts or some other lame lying account of why they did some he is opposed to.

Free speech isn't very important to Mark Lloyd the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)'s Chief Diversity Officer, a.k.a. the Diversity Czar.

This is just another example of Obama and his radical cabal's double speak.

I don't think Obama will get control, he'll lose big time just like in Massachusetts.

I actually agree with Hillary Clinton? She actually is respecting freedom? I must be going crazy.

    From your article :

The president of the United States has always had the constitutional authority, and duty, to protect the American people and direct the national response to any emergency that threatens the security and safety of the United States. The Rockefeller-Snowe Cybersecurity bill makes it clear that the president's authority includes securing our national cyber infrastructure from attack. The section of the bill that addresses this issue, applies specifically to the national response to a severe attack or natural disaster. This particular legislative language is based on longstanding statutory authorities for wartime use of communications networks. To be very clear, the Rockefeller-Snowe bill will not empower a "government shutdown or takeover of the Internet" and any suggestion otherwise is misleading and false. The purpose of this language is to clarify how the president directs the public-private response to a crisis, secure our economy and safeguard our financial networks, protect the American people, their privacy and civil liberties, and coordinate the government's response.
In other words the bill clarifies that the Government is in charge of protecting national cyber infrastructure(you know, what makes sure you get internet?). Did you not read the article entirely? It has nothing to do with "controlling" the interwebz.

    Why is clarification needed?

Do you know how the internet works? No one can take over the entire internet the way that we currently have it set up. And besides, the government already has complete control over their .gov websites. Why do they need control over the others?

Because another site can threaten theirs. Look at this whole 4chan/AT&T fiasco. 4chan countered a DDoS attack, and in response, the traffic was sent to AT&T costumers. The internet is much more interconnected then you might think.

Obama has never tried to get absolute control over the internet to censor or control any information.
