Two problems here: how long does McCain plan on staying in politics? A 6 year commitment is a long time for a dude his age.

And with all the crap that has been thrown around regarding the campaign, I would've thought they'd part....but apparently not.

The Arizona Republican announced Wednesday that the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate will join him in Phoenix on March 26 to help campaign for his re-election to the U.S. Senate.
......

Palin has criticized McCain's campaign since their loss, saying in her book "Going Rogue" that there was substantial tension between her advisers and McCain's. She also details how she was prevented from delivering a concession speech in Phoenix on Election Night, and how she'd been kept "bottled up" from reporters during the campaign.

Palin hasn't criticized McCain himself, and the senator has stood by his decision to choose Palin as his running mate and has staunchly defended her.

Earlier this month, McCain refused to discuss material in "Game Change," a book that says Palin's vetting was "hasty and haphazard."

I think Palin is going to hurt McCain's chances, as she did during his presidential run against Obama. Right now there are 2 Republicans ready to challenge him in a primary, Chris Simcox, and Jim Deakin, with JD Hayworth also considering a run. Whoever wins will face a tough battle against Napolitano, if she decides to leave Obama's cabinet and run for the Democrats. McCain doesn't need an idiot on his side this time. He should deep six Palin as fast as he can. Without her, he can hold the seat, but with her, he stands a better than even chance of losing, if not in the primary, then in the election itself.

McCain and Palin were never on bad terms....Former Romney staffers on the McCain campaign are the ones that had problems with Palin.

Right....
Does anyone now (expect maybe G. Beck and a few others) believe that Palin is an asset to Repubs?

Looking at what happened in NY23rd, she is likely to stab anyone that doesn't agree with her politics 100% in the back (metaphorically).

Right, a metaphor for taking her rifle and firing instead ;)

I think it's a pretty safe bet that commentary that includes calling Palin an "idiot" is commentary that should be followed with a second opinion.

I don't think Palin hurts or necessarily helps his campaign.

Please explain.

Her record in Alaska shows her to be a "constituent before idealogy" politician and her record of fighting corruption is second to none. Despite the attempts to characterize her as an "idiot", she is actually a very bright woman with an ability to connect with the average American.

I think her effectiveness is entirely dependent on where they intend to place her in the campaign. No one can honestly deny her popularity among the conservative base. Obviously, this means her support is potentially advantageous to perceived moderate Republican candidates, like McCain. If they use her appeal in the more conservative districts of Arizona, they may inspire more voters to to actually vote, and vote for McCain.

As for his age, I believe that is for him to decide. There are no rules against it, so that's that.

How is that a bad thing?

The average American has an IQ of only 100.

Or in other words, she is not a party hack that will support anyone with a "R" next to their name.

From Sarah Palin's Facebook page:

I want to again thank the good people of Massachusetts for propelling a commonsense, independent agenda forward! May the working man and woman feel empowered now more than ever to get involved in their government, and let's put this great country on the right track.

The past year continues to offer the promise of commonsense government in so many areas. There are steps we can all take to get there, one of which is to support candidates who promise to fight for the people and against politics as usual. I'm excited to get out and help elect candidates who will bring those principles to our nation's towns, state houses, and directly to Washington D.C. We are already making plans to support the candidates our nation needs to make a difference and speak for everyday Americans.

I look forward to helping Governors like Rick Perry in Texas, Representatives like Michele Bachmann in Minnesota, and heroes and statesmen like Senator John McCain. We will support these candidates and others so that they can continue to fight for our American values.

The special election yesterday in Massachusetts was truly amazing. It is a clear indication of things to come and a demonstration of the momentum we all share in the fight for the values and policies that will get our country back to work. The commonsense conservative principles of liberty and fiscal responsibility are on the rise, and that's why I'm going out and campaigning as hard as I can to make a difference. I can't wait to join all of you in supporting these great candidates and many more over the coming months.

In the meantime, visit the websites of Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, and John McCain. And join us as we embark on America's journey to November!

I suspect she may give McCain a boost in the primary considering her popularity with the base, but may drive off independents and moderates in the general election. Honestly, I don't care much as campaigning is purely up to McCain and she isn't running for office herself.

Wrong.
Even McCain's campaign manager said he would have lost by more without her.

McCain shot himself in the face... running against Thee Hollow Candidate he ran away from everything that would have KO'd him.

I hope she runs and takes Alan Keyes on as VP.

I respectfully disagree. She lost all credibility with me and lots of other folks when she make the stupid statement about the bomber on the Christmas flight showing "the system works." And I'm an Obama supporter! I wouldn't elect her as a cook to a mess hall.

You leftys continue to underestimate this lady....McCain did not lose because of her........In fact the pundits say she helped the ticket.......The fact is McCain was a bad candidate....He was dull and boring and when Palin joined the ticket they actually pulled ahead in the race..........

Palin has been and will continue to bone up on her politics and come 2012 will be the candidate for the Senate from Alaska and she will win..........Book it.......

Because lefties are "afraid," right? Whenever Palin is mentioned on this forum, the only point you guys can muster is, "They are just too afraid of her!"

Maybe it's my fault. Up until the whole Katie Couric interview I thought McCain made a great pick... now I just can't see past her lack of foreign policy experience (America is the world's most powerful nation, it's not like we're Australia where the biggest news is the winner of some rugby match or the latest forest fire ;)) and lack of basic knowledge (not being able to list her top supreme court decisions she's against. For pete's sake - just say Roe v. Wade!)

I sincerely hope Palin doesn't run again. Ever. She's bad for the GOP. Hell Romney's a better pick. Even Huckabee is better!?

The GOP needs someone young, sharp, and charismatic. Good looks wouldn't hurt. Even better if they can string a few words together and not sound like a rich banker or a dumb hick.
