Right....Left....what BS.
Human sufferng to the Left and Right only matters according to who sits in the White House throne. What's Europe's excuse? Lot of suffering in Bosnia and Kosovo. Didn't have to takle America to lead it. Perhaps Europe should lead the effort in Haiti? You know...to at least try to even it out?
Oh stop that crap. If you want to discuss the realities of Bosnia and Kosovo then start a thread about it. But stop promoting that revisionist crap you and your cohorts continue to promote.
And disasters has nothing to do with who sits in the White House but it does have something to do with how they react to said disaster. Disasters are not political tools unless someone makes it one and as it is standing now, it is part of the US right that is doing that big time. It was only hours into this catastrophe when the first partisan political comments came from the right.. Pat Roberston calling it a punishment from god over to Rush and others. They should be asking for donations like all the other sane people on air, but noo they have to exploit the misery of millions for personal, religious and political advantage.
You do know the facts on the ground right? 3+ million people homeless, 50k+ dead (more like 100k+), millions homeless, half the Capital in ruins as a minimum... how can you NOT send help to a situation like this?
Like it or not the world regardless of political colour responds to such things and only the most partisan hacks would from the start exploit this disaster in attacks against the opposition. The world responded when Pakistan needed help after an earthquake, when Iran needed help, when Asia needed help after the Tsunami and when the US was hit by Katrina.
As for the criticism that the aid is not going forward fast enough.. moron journalists who dont have a clue on how such things work.
Fact: The Port has been destroyed making the airport the only suitable place in the start to get aid in.
Fact: The airport was hit also leaving no air traffic control tower or power at the start. That had to be fixed and that took hours.
Fact: The airport has 1 runway and limited place.. it aint no JFK.
Fact: The Hatian government and the UN (and others) were hit just as hard as the population by this. The Presidential palace was destroyed and the UN HQ. 800 UN troops are missing. All the main infrastructure of government was hit, most being destroyed. Setting up new such things takes a buttload of time for the best.. and Haiti aint the best in such things.
Fact: The infrastructure in many areas have been destroyed. Roads, bridges, power, telecommunications and so on. Roads are littered with bodies and fallen houses. Getting trucks and aid through that is a challenge. And speaking of trucks and cars. Quite a bit of those were also destroyed in the earthquake, so new ones have be flown in.. taking time.
Fact: Getting a massive aid program going takes time. Even during Katrina it took days to get the whole system going on a full scale and that was in a country where the infrastructure before the disaster was top notch.. Haiti aint that kind of place. Getting the US air craft carrier there with helicopters and the hospital ship took almost 2 days and it was in the "neighbourhood". Getting people from outside in takes time like it or not. Getting materials in takes even more time.
