I know this already, what I am saying is that the Republican currently, was the Whig party. There was the Whig party and the democrat party just two. There have been numerous third parties which have all failed, with the exception of Teddy Roosevelt who left his party in mid term and created the Bull Moose party, which failed and he lost his reelection. So as you can see for yourself there has only been two major parties and which I was referring to. Now your turn for your pearls of wisdom or attempted condescending attitude...

    American Political Parties
    Emphasis mine.

First, you couldn't even get the name right. Now, you're telling me that the Whig Party became the Republican Party, which is just plain wrong. The Whig Party ended, some people became Democrats, most became Republicans. The Republican Party existed before the Whigs dissolved. I don't know how much more basic I can make this.

Here, let's see if this works: Republican Party ≠ Whig Party

Seriously, if you can't get this simple stuff, why are you wasting your time on a political debate site?

Well perhaps we are looking at it through a different lens:
The Republican Party, while it also attracted many anti-slavery Democrats, drew off so many Whigs that they effectively killed the Whig party
    The Whig Party
So essentially becoming the republican party, perhaps not rubber stamped as you would like but, non the less most Whigs ended up in the republican party. It all depend how you look at it.

In regards to getting the name wrong it was a more or less a typo after a very long day. Although you got the idea, this isn't a college exam so if your going to nit pick at spelling a typo's you can _______off.

    I don't get it.

Why is President Obama allowing the war Bush started to continue? Doesn't he realize it's what's making the economy go south?

The clean water beach showers worked okay in Labadee, its nice to shower off the salt water before you eat the buffet.
USS Carl Vincent is on location and produce 40,000 gallons of fresh water daily, I wonder if they plan on using this it would be much more efficient than bottled water.

Thus, as I stated up-thread, the Republican Party was once a third party.

The Republican Party began in 1854. The Whig Party ended in 1856.

    Not according to this link:
    American Political Parties
Although there has been two republican parties

The Democratic-Republican Party was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison around 1792.

The American Republican Party was a minor nativist political organization that was launched in New York in June 1843

Non the less you are also correct in regards to dates and party and I will concede to that but, I am also correct that in regards to third parties failing which history has proven. This country has had many different parties in her history and still do but, just about all are ineffective. Where third parties have become a success is whenit has merged with another party.
