There would be an issue with the Takings Clause to be settled after the fact, I would imagine.

I don't think it would be a problem, if the IRS and the Coast Gaurd started asking the cruise lines a buncha hard questions.

I guess make is the wrong word. Persuade would probably be more applicable in this case.

It may not have been. I might have put two and two together and got nine.

That's probably why the teams aren't being allowed in.

Cruise company to donate sun loungers to Haiti makeshift hospital | World news | The Guardian

John Weis, the company's associate vice president, said emergency food supplies delivered by another cruise liner, Independence of the Seas, on Friday have now been distributed and that more deliveries are planned for the rest of the week.

"We've also gone through the site giving up any extra lounge chairs, bedding and mattresses which are now being used in the makeshift hospital," he said. The hospital opened in a gym in Cap Haitian, 15 miles from Labadee, where thousands of people are said to be arriving to seek shelter, food and water or medical help. Passengers have been divided about whether to disembark and use the resort, which is under armed guard and is leased by Royal Caribbean from the Haitian government.

"Guests have the option of staying onboard if they do not feel comfortable getting off in Labadee, and we have augmented our onboard programmes for those guests," said a spokeswoman. "For the guests that do disembark, they can do so knowing that the net proceeds of their visit to Labadee will be donated to the relief effort."

Another ship is due to arrive today as some observers wondered why the dock was not being given up to aid ships. The company said yesterday that US coastguards have assessed the jetty and decided it could not be used for cargo ships.

again, what more do you expect from them?

It's kindof irrelevant, since the supplies still have to flown in.

Royal Caribbean brings passengers, aid to Labadee - Haiti - MiamiHerald.com

Royal Caribbean plans to provide at least $1 million in aid to Haiti, working with nonprofit groups like Food for the Poor, Pan American Development Foundation, and the Solano Foundation, a company foundation in Haiti. Its own Crew Relief Fund is available to more than 200 Haitian crew members.

In addition, the company said all its net revenue from Labadee will be plowed into relief efforts for a period, though it didn't say how long that would be. The company also set up a process for passengers to make donations to Haitian relief efforts by credit card.
