6 al-Qaida militants die in Yemen air strike

“Two may have survived and escaped”, he added.

“The group included Qassem al-Remi, Ayed al-Shabwani, Ammar al-Waeli, and Saleh al-Teys,” said the official, adding that the four are wanted by Yemeni and U.S. security.

Yemen declared open war on al Qaeda on Thursday and warned its citizens against aiding the global militant group.

The impoverished Arab country has come under pressure to act against al-Qaeda since attacks on its two main allies, Saudi Arabia and the United States, by militants coming from Yemeni soil.

Saudi Arabia fears that instability in its populous neighbour will allow al-Qaeda militants to use safe havens there for attacks on the world's biggest oil exporter.

Its good to see that the Yemeni government is finally stepping up to the plate on this issue! Hopefully the US and Saudis can provide Yemen with assistance on this if the Yemeni gov't requests it.

Re: 6 al-Qaida militants die in Yemen air strike

Does anyone else wonder how any military knows who they are firing on from the air?
I remember rumors back during the 1967 Israeli war that a picture was taken of General Moshe Dayan and you could read the time on his watch. That was 42 years ago and the U-2 had been around for 10 years and the SR-71 was two years old as far as we know.

We know the Predator has made attacks but we don't know how good they see. But if we just look at Google Earth's capabilities we can extrapolate that we are being watched like most would not believe.

I know for a fact that some of the technology shown in movies that the use of heat sensors and gamma ray devices allows the viewing of occupants of even masonry buildings, making privacy a thing of the past. I know this can be done at street level because I have seen it, but I wonder if they can be done from high altitude or even space.

As far as killing the bad guys the more the merrier, and I wish a get tough kick policy was what we had in stead of the touchy feely crap Obama started spewing. He's heavy into his usual double speak now. Walk softly and talk tough and do only enough to fake the believers into thinking he's on their side. The question becomes which believers side is he really on.

    Good riddance to human garbage.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius
