US takes charge in Haiti — with troops, rescue aid

Now, I in no way mean any offense to your country, but the relationship between the U.S. and Canada really reminds me of

Sometimes it can be like that a bit. But Canada didn't go into Haiti because of the US, we have a great deal of ties to Haiti (heck, our Governor-General is from Haiti originally) and a history of involvement with them.

I have to wonder after all this rescue aid and effort to help these people during this disaster, what happens when everything is settled down?

Does it go back to being a non disaster hell hole?

Probably, I'm sad to say.

It is only normal for a superpower to help a country facing a catastrophy.

It is NOBLE to do it without bragging about it.

You are just as pathetic. Bringing in your political war crap into a disaster like this.. utter shameful. And again you are the one starting the "we pay most" crap... pathetic.. and shameful. You and people like you are a disgrace to the conservative movement world wide.
Pete, come talk to me when Spain takes charge in Haiti. Until then, the US is showing what we are good at, and have always been good at. That's coming in and helping others on a mass scale.

I guess it then begs the question, why do anything at all?

I feel that we're bailing out the government of Haiti, why not let the survivors take them to task, then we can help out.

Because we're humanitarians?

In a way Harry has a point, it's something I myself have pondered. Unfortunately for all sides this devastation happened, also unfortunate is that there is no way to help these people without helping their government, finally, and possibly most unfortunate is that we allowed the Haitian government to go in full collapse before aiding them we would be nationbuilding, and that is completely against our ways(supposed to be anyway).

You certainly got that aid as far as the runway, some day soon it'll be given to any survivors.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want people to suffer more than they already are but I think that Haiti will be right back at square one waiting for the next catastrophe to befall them with no real plan set up by their government.

The more I read about the government of Haiti, the more disgusted I get.
They don't really bother to fund water sanitation because they know charities will do some of it.

Where is the money going and why can't they at least build the minimum infrastructure to support the basic needs of the people?

The whole of their government needs to get the boot.

Well we, the US, Canada, France, already acted together to perform a coup de'tat against an elected Haitian government a few years back. Maybe their government sucks because we keep kicking out anybody that isn't playing along with us.

It had more to do with corrupt elections, dictatorial rule, etc. But you're right, we shouldn't be nation building.
