Bill requires emergency birth control access

Bill requires emergency birth control access - Air Force News, news from Iraq - Air Force Times

The Compassionate Care for Servicewomen Act would add emergency contraceptives to the core list of medications that must be stocked by every military health care facility.

Emergency contraceptives, including what are commonly called “morning-after pills,” are not required to be stocked on military bases but are part of the pharmacy stock at some locations.

A statement issued by Franken’s office says emergency contraception is “widely available” at private-sector pharmacies throughout the U.S. but “is not always available to servicewomen … particularly those serving overseas.”

The bill also would mandate that patients not be required to get prior approval to receive emergency contraceptives.
As long as women are serving in the military, I support this, especially because a pregnant woman means a discharged woman, and one less soldier on the lines doing their job. This legislature acknowledges the reality that although sexual activities aren't allowed in the military, they can and do happen.

Any woman that isn't responsible and disciplined enough to avoid getting knocked up, either through protection, or abstanance doesn't need to be in the service to begin with.

Ok, discipline the sperm doner, as well. Cool?

The bottom line, is that the military is a place that has rules and those rules aren't flexible. They are in place for a reason. When we start arbitrarily bending those rules to suit the needs of a few undisciplined soldiers who aren't mature enough to follow those rules, then we endager the lives of hundreds of thousands of other soldiers. I doubt their is anyone that joins the service, totally unaware that there are rules and that there are serious concequences to breaking those rules.

If we could only get the generals to learn that.....
The rules are flexible or should I say, selectively enforced.....
I'd rather see them take a couple pills & return to duty than take up space in the stockade...
At some point one must employ common sense over religious ideals....
Admit it: You are 'pro life' & you are willing to use 'a few undisciplined soldiers' to further your agenda....

Your misconceptions about Military Life are manifold! Guess what? There are many thousands of mothers on active duty, in the Guard and Reserve.

Futher, the Milatary is not a monastic order, which bans sexual activity.

I never selectively enforced the regulations when I was in the service. When I saw it happened, I immediately made issue of the situation. If I can't depend on a soldier to follow a simple rule, then I can't depend on that soldier to do his/her job on the battlefield.

I'd rather see them take a couple pills & return to duty than take up space in the stockade...
Well, hell, while we're at it, let's stop enforcing the regulations against self inflicted wounds, too. Right?

You can't imagine how wrong you are. My agenda would be more aligned with gender segregated units. Especially for the Army and Marine Corps.

If they manage to damage government property to that extent, they should be court-martialed and kicked out of the service.

Maybe not you personally, but is does happen all the time....

Shooting yourself in the foot is not the same as getting knocked up....

Ok, that I can agree with, especially in combat units, but as long as women are in the armed forces, you will get pregnancies......
& as someone pointed out, sex is not strictly forbidden.......

If, through their own concious actions, create a situation where they are unable to perform their duty, then they are in violation of the regulations.

Getting knocked up, while on deployment with a forward unit, falls into that category.
