Hitler was an easy scapegoat: Oliver Stone

ANI, 12 January 2010, 01:03am IST

LONDON: Oliver Stone has courted controversy after suggesting that German dictator Adolf Hitler was made an “easy scapegoat” by history.

The controversial director has come up with a new documentary series, called “The Secret History of America”, which he hopes would put figures including Hitler and Stalin “in context”.

“Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and it’s been used cheaply. He’s the product of a series of actions. It’s cause and effect,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying at a press conference in California.

Seriously,he cannot personally beleive this can he? All I can hope for is that he trying to hype his latest project and willing to take heat to promote it.Has to be the least intelligent thing Ive seen offered up for public consumption since Obama told us middle class wouldnt have to have their taxes raised.

It's Hollywood. Listening to them for political advice is like me asking a plumber how to design a website.

Wait long enough and someone like Stone will show you just what a loony-tune he really is.

It WAS a synchronicity of events that led to Hitler coming into power. There were many factors and people involved that all came together at the same time.

And that somehow excuses his abuse of the power?

We'll assume somehow Stone will tie the Jews to plunging Europe into the second world war, thus justifying the warnings of their demise by Hitler for doing so?

There is one thing that IS put "in-context" here, though: Stone's admiration of Fidel Castro.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think Stone was trying to excuse Hitler's abuse of power. He was just saying that Hitler might have been more multidimensional than the way he is typically portrayed. Remember, Stone is a filmmaker. I think it could be useful to see films that presented other facets of Hitler's character and the conditions that led to them, instead of just portraying him as a cartoonish monster. I don't think that's necessarily the same as sympathizing with him or excusing his actions.

Honestly, I'd probably be with you here if this was anybody but Oliver Stone, a vocal supporter of the Cuban Revolution. He's already proven to have the ability to sympathize with dictators, so this wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Im not sure theres any 'context' (to use Stones words) that can mitigate the actions Hitler undertook during this period of time.

Hitler was genius, charismatic,a true leader, pathologically diabolical and clearly insane.Certainly multidimensional but I have a sneaking suspicion that he's going to try and play some kind of intellectually dishonest sympathy card.

He was a monster-cartoonish or otherwise.

Is that what I said? Is that what 'we're' assuming? What ARE you talking about?

Dont get hostile.
Im just making discussion.
Hitlers own rational for the initiation of the final solution was the Jews instigation of another war world.
How else is Stone going to ease the worlds predetermined mindset?

You certainly manage to read quite a bit into people's posts, don't you. :2razz:

Amusing...

Stone was also quoted as saying;

“Obviously, Rush Limbaugh is not going to like this history and, as usual, we’re going to get those kind of ignorant attacks.”

no one ever likes revisionist of history.

Looks like Stone is developing alzheimers.
Too bad..... he made some of the best movies of the 80s and 90s. His "World Trade Center" was pretty good, too.

He did? I have uniformly hated his movies.

Ole Stone will once more be laughing all the way to the bank---No business like show business--no business I know.

I could just as easily say, "Gandhi is the product of a series of actions. It’s cause and effect”

It is HOW we react to events that defines us. Hitler was a ***** and so is Stone.

Have you seen Platoon, Wall Street, Salvador, Heaven and Earth? Born on the Fourth of July?
Platoon and Salvador were masterpieces.
Which movies of his have you seen?
World Trade Center was pretty good too.
