59% Favor Racial, Ethnic Profiling For Airline Security [Title edited]

Well it seems the silent majority does not agree with the members of DP who think profiling is wrong at least the liberals in DP feel that way........This is great to see because I believe strongly in profiliing and whatever else it takes to keep this country safe..........

59% Favor Racial, Ethnic Profiling For Airline Security

59% Favor Racial, Ethnic Profiling For Airline Security - Rasmussen Reports

The Christmas Day terrorist attempt by a Nigerian Muslim on a U.S. airliner has reignited the debate on racial and ethnic profiling in airports, but most Americans agree that profiling is necessary to ensure airline safety.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 59% of adults say factors such as race, ethnicity and overall appearance should be used to determine which boarding passengers to search at airports. Twenty-six percent (26%) say these factors should not be used to determine which passengers to search. Another 15% are not sure.

No, but I've seen SP for Statistically Probable.

As to the OP. I think profiling is a poor word... or a word that has gotten a lot of negativity to surround it. If during the matter of a few years, several terrorist attacks on airplanes are performed by blonde-headed men, it makes sense to be more suspicious of blonde-headed men on airplanes. That does not mean that all blonde-headed men should not be allowed to fly... or should be harassed. But it stands to reason to be more aware when you see a blonde-headed man going on an airplane. This is not stereotyping. It is using past evidence to assist in making assessments.

    Re: Poll on profiling

Haven't really thought about this "Profiling" topic much.

    But...

IMO, it would depend on how you went about it.

If you define "profiling" as "focusing more attention on X person who fits into a specific framework Y which describes the majority of persons of persuasion Z", then as of yet I don't see much issue with it.
As long as there is still some attention focused on everyone else, in case someone who does not fit into framework Y but is still of persuasion Z (if persuasion Z is a state of mind which allows terror-causing actions to be performed by someone) is attempting to pass through a security setup using framwork Y as a screen.

    Or...something.

    Re: Poll on profiling

A testament to the politically correct insanity now ruling the day in airport security.

My mother-in-law was pulled aside and searched and questioned last time she flew last year. She is as white as can be, speaks with a thick Scottish accent, and has blonde hair. You know, fitting the classic profile of the typical Islamic terrorist now wreaking havoc all over the globe in the name of Allah.

Those cowards in charge are more concerned about bending over backwards trying not to offend Muslims than they are in protecting people and ensuring the efficiency of travel and commerce.

Yes but when profiling you profile the people who are doing the deeds.........for instance if a one armed man commits a crime you don't profile people who have 2 arms.........

I can remember when most everyone was against profiling.Judging by the rasmussen poll things have drastically changed........Thank God for change......

Your right CC I don't agree with most polls because the are usually bias or have and agenda.I can't say that for Rasmussen though..........They are usually pretty close to being right on.........

NP... I pretty much agree with you here. These tactics are invaluable in law enforcement.

Just messing with you, NP. I don't buy much into public polls... Rasmussen or otherwise. I much prefer to see research with more methodologically sound studies.
