For the record, IMO, this a bad decision. I hope the next court tosses it out.

Incarcerated felons should not get to vote. They owe a debt to society and do not get the same privileges as other adults.

Paroled felons are technically still repaying their debt and should not vote.

If you've met all the conditions of your sentence and parole AND have started paying taxes for a number of years, you can reapply for voting status.
I agree, except for needing to start paying taxes a number of years and then reapplying. I think getting your voting rights back should be automatic without any reapplications. Maybe get it after the first time you've paid your income taxes after being released.

More inanity from the 9th circuit. SCotUS will toss this.

    Fair enough.

Though, if you went to jail for voter fraud or rigging elections, then maybe you should never get the right to vote back.

Yea, just based on a very quick skim of the facts, I would be surprised if this even made it to the SC.

It was a 2-1 decision by a panel of the 9th Circuit. Without knowing the leanings of the Justices of this panel, I would be surprised if this logic won in an en banc hearing, considering that several other circuits have already come out the other way on this. It's worth noting that should this make it to the Supreme Court, there's already one vote locked down in favor of supporting this decision: Sotomayor.

    Court their vote?
We KNOW who the masses of felons will vote for.
So do those who have pushed for this crap for years.

Re: Washington state felons should have voting rights, federal court rules

A federal appeals court on Tuesday tossed out Washington's law banning incarcerated felons from voting, finding the state's criminal-justice system is "infected" with racial discrimination.
Then address the racial discrimination in the system. I fail to see what a discriminatory justice system has to do with allowing fellons to vote.

Incidentally, what does committing felonies have to do with the right to vote? Can anybody explain to me why felons lose voting rights?

I disagree with the 9th on this one (no surprise). However I do think that once a felon has finished all court appointed fines/sentence then all rights should be restored automatically.

Not a lot of point voting in any instance as what you get are a bunch of corrupt thieving and self serving B*st*rds in Congress anyway.

The logic is that if felons could vote, then hitmen would vote to legalize murder, drug addicts would vote to legalize drugs, and pedophiles would vote to legalize pedophilia. Basically, criminal scum would have a voice in the law-making of society despite being scum.

What this doesn't address, however, is that there are some really stupid and draconic laws out there, such as the criminalization of marijuana and prostitution, or teenage girls sending nudie pics of themselves to their boyfriends over their cellphones being prosecuted for being child pornographers.

So when people use the law in draconic ways to go after a specific subset of society, those people are disenfranchised from making their case known.
