I think the French seem to use protests or mass gatherings as a form of dissent. It stems from the 'Revolution days' so once you get a sizable amount of people it can often spill over to this kind of behaviour.

Interesting that the crowd was numerically half the size of last year.

Surprisingly yes it does happen in supposedly civilized countries.

In France it is by now a well known rite of year change.

At least it was a one off thing in France due to extremes.

And it is not like you did not know that Katrina was going to hit...so using your excuse is a bit pathetic. You could not prevent it, but you did know it was coming. The French and Europe in general did not know that the heat wave would be that bad and last that long.

The heat wave that killed 15k in France killed thousands across Europe and was due to insane hot weather. I lived through it and it was freaking hotter than normal. France is not Texas, where 30+ degrees is the norm and here we are talking about close to 40 degrees for days. It is not normal to have air conditioners in France or most of middle Europe because the temperature normally dont go over 32 degrees during the summer, so there is no reason to have air conditioners.

But back to the actual story, the burning of cars in France. Insurance fraud. And feel free to make fun of this part of French society (most French love making fun of it also), but put in perspective when you use it in "we are superior" than the French attempt.
That sure speaks well of France.

The French government fears its people. That's how it should be. The trend of hating France comes from the top down. If Americans embraced some aspects of French polity, it would a direct threat to their statist government. It's no wonder then that the wedge is being driven so deep.

Almost a new record, but just a few cars short.

How does this happen in a highly civilized country?
some of the inhabitants possess a 13th century mindset?

    ROTFLMFAO.
    App-i Newyeer.

Who said they were highly civilized?
    Civilized? ...Perhaps.
    Highly civilized? LOL.

I always loved Patton's line about the French: "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."

You see, that's the French Region of the US.

Similar highly corrupt culture, socialists running the show for decades, and ...no plan for their worst and what would be most predictable disaster.

State government failed in NO,LA. City government failed. Do the Feds need to plan for every community? Kommunity Organizing?

Say a hurricane is about to destroy the city you live in. Two questions:

    1. What would you do?

    2. What would you do if you were black?

Sadly, the two questions don't have the same answer.

To the first: Most of us would take our families out of that city quickly to protect them from danger. Then, able-bodied men would return to help others in need, as wives and others cared for children, elderly, infirm and the like.

For better or worse, Hurricane Katrina has told us the answer to the second question. If you're black and a hurricane is about to destroy your city, then you'll probably wait for the government to save you.

...the rampant immorality of blacks. Had New Orleans' black community taken action, most would have been out of harm's way. But most were too lazy, immoral and trifling to do anything productive for themselves.

Was I the only one who looked at the number and was dismayed only because it wasn't "1337"?

Total B.S. Lives were lost during Katrina that could have been saved. Totally other topic though
