How is that analogous? That was a massive, unplanned natural disaster, while this was a man-made event that everyone knew would happen.

Ah, my apologies, I didn't see that you were responding to the heat wave comment and thought you were talking about the car torching.

Almost a new record, but just a few cars short.

How does this happen in a highly civilized country?
I don't know if i can believe there is a civilized country, who is considered uncivilized?
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

15k+ people die in the US every year due to lack of healthcare. How is that civilized? So since the 14k people died in France how many have died in the US due to lack of healthcare?

Over 7000 people (more than one a day) are murdered in the US by a gun. How is that civilized?

At least it was a one off thing in France due to extremes.

And it is not like you did not know that Katrina was going to hit...so using your excuse is a bit pathetic. You could not prevent it, but you did know it was coming. The French and Europe in general did not know that the heat wave would be that bad and last that long.

The heat wave that killed 15k in France killed thousands across Europe and was due to insane hot weather. I lived through it and it was freaking hotter than normal. France is not Texas, where 30+ degrees is the norm and here we are talking about close to 40 degrees for days. It is not normal to have air conditioners in France or most of middle Europe because the temperature normally dont go over 32 degrees during the summer, so there is no reason to have air conditioners.

But back to the actual story, the burning of cars in France. Insurance fraud. And feel free to make fun of this part of French society (most French love making fun of it also), but put in perspective when you use it in "we are superior" than the French attempt.

What have you got against the Scot's?

the eminent Jewish-Scottish scholar David Daiches states in his autobiographical Two Worlds: An Edinburgh Jewish Childhood that there are grounds for saying that Scotland is the only European country which has no history of state persecution of Jews.

It happens here in the US too.
