Obama considering military strikes after Christmas Day aircraft plot

So...You're the president of the United States. A failed terrorist attempt just occurred. The government of the country in which the terrorist comes from is willing to work with you...It's 3 am. What do you do?

WWJD?

What would Joker do? (Heath Ledger version)

So Yemen is an Islamic state now:doh and if you want to prevent international sympathy......

It is an Islamic state. It is an Arab state. Just about 100 percent of the population is Islamic. Where's your confusion? Who wants to prevent international sympathy towards of terrorists and their supporters? If people need coerced into identifying an obvious enemy than they were always the enemy anyway. International crocodile tears don't concern me. In fact, they can do as those Sunni Msulims did over Iraq and travel to their deaths if they care that much. But something tells me that criticizing American activity of any kind is usually the goal of the international "sympathizers." If you've noticed, America has a very long history of dismissing global opinion as insignificant. Global opinion didn't lead us to European wars until we chose to intervene. Global opinion didn't keep us out of Vietnam. Global opinion didn't keep us out of Kosovo. Global opinion didn't keep us out of Afghanistan. Global opinion didn't keep us out of Iraq. Why should we start caring now?

America is in this for America. It's only because of our sense of morality and personal national image that the rest of the world benefits. And if you truly think that America is like the rest, than consider that our power could have had us forceably and brutally dominating this world long ago. Allying with Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union or China would surely guarantee global domination over the rest instead of this "hands-across-the-western-world" illusion we allow people to believe in.

The whole Middle East is going down. Birth rates are going up. Fresh water is exponentially a concern. And an entire region relies almost entirely upon a natural resource that is drying up. Either they "evolve" and educate properly or become a slaughter ground as they emerse deeper and deeper into Islamic fanaticism. Clock's ticking.

If we've got amnesia as you claim, I'm sure you can prove that by showing us the evidence of "demo" calling for an invasion of Iraq to get rid of Saddam "18 months prior to Bush going in" as you put it. I'll be waiting for the evidence.

I don't understand the absolute ignorance into these matters people have. Perhaps it's my military background that make these things a focus while others were concerned with Monika Lewinsky/Bill Clinton escapades.

It was later into the Clinton administration that President Clinton was trying to inform people about a man named Osama Bin Laden. Also, throughout his presidency, President Clinton had bombed Iraq 4 separate times. The last time even involved the high-and-mighty French in 1999. However, General Zinni reports in his book that in 1999 he was given targets that did not seem appropriate to WMD locations. When he asked about these targets he was told that "these are possible WMD threats."

When he Osama Bin Laden released his justification letter after 9/11 to the American people, he stated that the "starving children of Iraq" and "western presence in the holy land" was an offense to Islam by the U.S. Was he right? I would say that it was also an offense to what we are supposed to stand for.

By 2002, the White House, the Pentagon, and the military was fed up with our 11 year UN mission to contain a dictator that should be rotting under the ground. In 2003, we launched the mission to rid ourselves of this prick once and for all.

And that has nothing to do with the point of the post. If taking out the dictator Saddam is essential to the "war on terror", then why not other equally horrendous and more dangerous dictators? What's the system the Bush administration used to decide which get the boot, which don't?

Taking out Hussein was not "essential" to the poorly named War on Terror. That was all BS for the morons who can't understand things beyond their DirectTV.

Why not other "horrendous and more dangerous dictators?" Because other dictators weren't our twelve year mission coming to an end. What other dictator belonged to us for twelve years? What other dictator brutalized under our watchful eye for a despicable UN "food-for-oil" exchange? What other dictator invaded two neighboring countries and was a constant thorn in a region where the entire world receives oil? What other dictator was used as a justification for 9/11?

As a bonus, we get to seed a "democracy" in the heart land of terrorist hell. Removing him (12 years late) in exchange for another dictator was not an option.

What I find absultely humerous is how people insist that our problem is merely a matter of dealikng with a few "rogues" of Islam. People have this sense that one Muslim nation has nothing to do with another Muslim nation. With Islamic fanatics turning into extremist terrorists with ease in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, and any other nation where Muslims make a significant number of the population, this is clearly a regional issue and not a single nation's problem.

I wonder how much more have to die in the name of Islam before the Muslim armies of these nations begin to mobilize with the West against what they are calling "perverts of Islam." Until they do, this will continue to be a "war against Muslims" to their masses.

Obama's "isolated extremist" comment proves how out of touch with reality he is and how he views the war against radical Islam as merely a criminal affair. The man is clueless and endangering us all with his idiotic view of things that bear no relation to reality.

It is so clearly obvious that Barack Obama's is directly at fault because of his failure to personally stop the man from entering the plane. There are no arguments against that. It is fact.

wow

How about bearing this relation to reality...

Look up how many white people have killed white people for religious, financial, or ANY other purposes right here in the US since ummm......yesterday.

I'm more worried about "mere criminal affairs" every day in my neighborhood than about a MINOR MINOR MINOR MINORITY of people who WANT to kill us.

reality check

It is so clearly obvious Obama doesn't have the slightest clue what we face in radical Islam. He is like a little child with fairy tale fantasies in his head while being blind to the reality that surrounds him. He stands up and continues to tell us that 1+2=2 making a complete jackass of himself in the process when later he has to acknowledge that in fact it equals three and we say, very good moron, but can you learn a little faster before hundreds more people are murdered???

hundreds more are murdered. every day. in seattle. in milwaukee. in orlando. EVERY DAY. EVERY SINGL DAY. How many Americans have killed Americans since 9/11.....

TENS OF THOUSANDS.

Here is a reality check.

It took 19 people on 9-11 to slaughter several thousand people in mere minutes and cause billions of dollars of damage.

There are purportedly some one billion Muslims in the world. Your supposedly "MINOR MINOR MINOR MINORITY" is in fact a substantial number when placed in proper context.

super, sergeant, thanks

i eagerly appreciate your work on these boards, i learn tons

i'd ask you, france?

england?

not just saudi arabia and yemen and somalia and pakistan and afghanistan and sunni iraq and the philippines, indonesia...

the shiites in iran?

but, most to my curiosity, here---france?

yes, our clueless leader can't even bring himself to SAY the words, "terror," terrorist," "jihad," let alone the unutterable "m" word

And those are committed by isolated extremists with no link rather than a cohort of people motivated by religious fanaticism to kill as many people as possible at any cost.

You confuse random acts of domestic crime with acts of war that share a common thread.

Oh my lord. Did you just imply that we should be afraid that all Muslims are a threat? All 1 Billion? You are out of your mind. 19 people killed 3000.

Thats a ratio of 157 people killed by each terrorist.
Timothy McVeigh killed 168.
There are 2.1 Billion Christians in the world.

Don't play numbers against me.

he took the exact same approach to hasan, the fort hood hitman

he lets his AGENDA dictate his RESPONSE

apparently, repeatedly before the facts are in

he has to go out and RESTATE

he WANTS SO for these incidents to be anything other than what, sadly, they are, acts of terrorism

he did the same type of prejudging in the prof vs po po soap opera, the cambridge police, which ruined his big health care delivery that nite and ended in the barrel of laughs that was the beer summit

the obama we see is the obama who is

he is HARD WIRED to act this way, he can do no other

his almost every step is false, politically

he is completely out of touch with the american people, so much so it appears he really does not know those he would presume to lead

oh well

happy new year, my friend

My point is that the isolated extremists have killed more than the damned network of terrorists You're saying it yourself.

And saying that since they are not a network of people, we should worry about them.

And saying that a muslim extremist killing 12 people at fort hood is somehow worse than a Christian extremist killing 4 cops in Seattle. Or a money obsessed extremist killing people in his office or...

The 9 people killed by one crazy shooter in Alabama in 09.

Or Covina California where that Santa killed 9 people.

Or this.................

"On April 16, 2007, Virginia Tech, a university in Blacksburg, Virginia, became the site of the deadliest rampage in modern U.S. history when a student gunman killed 32 people and himself."

Nope. These don't matter. They are isolated. Terrorists killed way more Americans over the past decade than anyone. Since forever. They have always been the number one source of killing americans.

And we should spend every second of every day obsessing over it. And fighting country vs. country wars over it. And typing about it

It's unfortunate that you can't distinguish between, and determine the importance and threat level of, random acts of domestic violence committed by people with no links or ties and acts of war committed by people that do in fact share a common thread connecting their actions.

Your comparison is silly to say the very least. I know liberals love to trot out McCVeigh and Christians anytime a discussion on radical Islam happens, but the level and scale of violence on the part of Muslims bears no relation to that of Christians. Diverting attention away from Muslims to Christians is silly and unreasonable. If you want to go tit for tat, you list violence committed in the name of Christianity in recent decades and I list that committed by Muslims, then I will simply blow you out of the water ten times over. It's not even comparable. No where even remotely close.

the "m's" (hey, the president can't say it either) have killed 100 innocent people, lots of women and children, THIS WEEK

Good for you. My reality extends a bit further than your neighborhood and TV set though.

If you're a coward. Though denying a real problem between civilizations is stupid. Surely we can find a comfortable practical place in between?

Europe sparked an entire global World War over a single assasination. We deal with the Tali-Ban and Al-Queda and some terrorists around the globe and you state we are over reacting? Perhaps it is you that should have the "reality check."

He can distinguish them. He's just playing stupid for political reasons and placating to the "superior" BS that people pretend to be. For people like him this began on 9/11. But for people like me it began with Beirut.

Yeah, what was it? 212 dead or something close to that back in '83? Or that the embassies in Africa.
