Anyone who works in the area of drug rehabilitation will tell "Once an addict, always an Addict".

That said...most of us don't have a problem with Limbaugh's addiction, so much as we have a problem with the hypocrisy and double standards that are so apparent in him and in his followers.

Not only do his supporters refuse to confront the counterproductive consequences of this war and its obvious race and class-based double standards, they've turned hypocrisy into their own rallying cry. With appalling chutzpa, the conservative choir has excused Limbaugh's hypocrisy while simultaneously accusing "liberals and the media" of either themselves doing drugs or defending those who do. Indeed, according to the warped logic of one of his most vocal supporters, Limbaugh's hypocrisy is acceptable in large part because of the media's hypocrisy. As conservative pundit Matt Drudge declared recently on Buchanan and Press "There's no law against being a hypocrite a few times in your life and this industry is built on hypocrisy. I'm challenging the media tonight to empty their pockets."

Drudge's defense of Limbaugh is taken directly out of the Right's playbook: "When caught red-handed living a lie, deflect attention from your personal responsibility and shoot one directly across the bow of those perpetual evil-doers, 'the liberals and the media.' ... "

    What hypocrisy?

The guy was prescribed pain killers post surgery and got hooked.
There was no proof of Doctor shopping.
He didn't blame Libs or the media.

He's been pretty open about it, most recently speaking about it with William Shatner.

    .

The hypocrisy that Rush and his followers believe that drug addicts should go to prison*

(*This does not apply to Rush Limbaugh)....please, the way they rationalize his crime and his addiction is priceless.

And I didn't contradict myself. What I was saying (if you were able to comprehend) is that I have sympathy for Rush's drug addiction. What I have a problem with is his hypocrisy that he should be treated differently than any other addict. I believe that all addicts are deserving of sympathy and should be given help. Rush and his supporters don't feel that way....except for drug addicts that are like Rush.

How do you know he isn't? I'm not saying that he is, but drug addiction is a life long battle and chances are....Rush will relapse at some point, if he hasn't already.

Many should. Pushers should be given brutal sentences. Singapore, and other countries have a pretty good method of dealing with them.

(*This does not apply to Rush Limbaugh)....please, the way they rationalize his crime and his addiction is priceless.
He became addicted to pain medication; prescribed by a medical professional.
And I didn't contradict myself. What I was saying (if you were able to comprehend) is that I have sympathy for Rush's drug addiction.
Well, you didn't express sympathy, not from the posts I read. You said "most of us don't have a problem with Limbaugh's addiction".
A very different can of worms.

What I have a problem with is his hypocrisy that he should be treated differently than any other addict.
    Was he?
I don't see Hollywood in prison?

I believe that all addicts are deserving of sympathy and should be given help.
Not all addicts want help. The student first must be prepared to take the advice of the teacher.

I don't think they should be "given" anything. It's their choice, their hole. If someone wants to assist, hat's off to them. The best way to reduce the problem is to be dispassionate about it. You dug that hole, you fill it up. It's called personal responsibility.

Government surely shouldn't be in the business of rehabilitating drug addicts.

Rush and his supporters don't feel that way....except for drug addicts that are like Rush.
Big, big, big generalization, and simply to broad to hold vast support.

For example, some of Rush's supporters are Libertarians that believe if someone wants to risk messing up their life with drugs, go ahead... just don't force me to pay for your rehabilitation or your drugs.

While I agree with some of what you wrote....you are guilty of much of the same rationalization of Rush's drug addiction as other Rush fans.

The bottom line is....people get addicted to narcotics because they misuse them. It doesn't matter if they are government sanctioned narcotics or street sanctioned ones.
