What is your problem with directing people toward more appropriate forms of care?

You mean turning away the poor to make room for the rich.

No, YOU mean that. The fact that the program does not, speaks volumes. That and the unusual sight of an avowed "very conservative" showing such weakness as professing concern for the poor as against the rich.

You mean people who went to the hospital for a cold and hang nails, or the homeless, looking for a place to stay? If you're not sick, the hospital is not in the business of helping healthy homeless people.

Somebody has to pay for those who can't pay. The hospital has to keep bringing in the rich to tack on the maternity charges for Big Bertha and her fifth illegitimate child.

Re: Report: Rush Limbaugh taken to Hawaii hospital

All'z I know is that, last summer, we witnessed our dear mother experience a timely expiration. During her lifetime she was a hard worker being a mother, raising her family, and working 40+ hour weeks paying her taxes and SS.

Although, too far up in the years to remember, she was not, too my knowlege, denied any plausable treatment that could possibly extend her already hyper-extended (age-wise) life. The Dr's and staff were very caring and open with the family and took extremely good care of my mother.

Granted, towards the end game when it was determined the best they had to offer was comfort for an inevitable demise. It was only a matter of time measured in hours and minutes. There was some issue where her medicare was about to exhaust and a two month time lapse before the medicaid would kick in, that would cost the family out of pocket expenses of around 40,000.00 to keep her cared for. We agreed, as a family, to foot whatever expense. However, my mother died before her medicare exhausted.

She passed with dignity. She lived on a fixed income. She had no possible way to foot the bill on her long hospital/hospice care. I'm not religious, but it's times like these I say "God Bless America." My country was there for my mom. She is the perfect example to show how the American system can, and does, work. Some would prefer the gov'y wheeled my mother out on a gurnee to the "Exiration Room." Some would insist they hooked her up to a machine with beepers and tube tubes and be kept alive to keep the cash cow rolling. Then, there is some cool-head reason, somewhere in-between. We need that. We need the balance.

The moral of my long winded story is this.

This is America. We will not knowingly let our own, regardless of their age, gender, race or creed, just get tossed aside to die simply because they are poor.

I do not deny there are many cracks that could be mended in the system. There is enough fat to trim on many fronts.

But with all it's faults, it's still the best sytem mankind has to offer in this day and age.

I also wish everybody would just donate one dollar to the red cross. A schtinkin' buck. That's half of a Snicker's bar. It would work miracles if everybody did.
