Transport Canada decreed the new airport security measures which take effect immediately in a statement Monday evening. They include a prohibition on bringing baggage aboard the cabin of any flight bound for the United States, with certain exceptions:

Medication or medical devices, including crutches, canes, walkers and containers carrying life-sustaining items.

    Small purses.

    Cameras.

    Coats.

    Items for care of infants.

    Laptop computers

    Musical instruments.

    Diplomatic or consular bags.

    Other special needs items.

Air Canada has also decided that once airborne, passengers will not be allowed to leave their seats for one hour before landing.
Glad I'm not flying to the U.S. anytime soon. It was already difficult to fly through American airspace before, even for connecting flights, but now this. I don't see how this knee-jerk reaction is going to really prevent anything. The act already happened.

My question is... why is security in North America being increased so drastically when the passenger came from Amsterdam? Shouldn't our governments be putting pressure on the departure countries too? I haven't heard any statements put out by the Netherlands about this.

Furthermore, why is Canada being hit with these restrictions when terrorist acts have never originated from our country?

Let's recall some facts about the Nigerian:
    - paid cash
    - one-way ticket
    - Nigerian citizen
    - had recently traveled to Yemen
    - was on a list

    Red flag anyone?

Maybe we shouldn't be hassling every day people with more security measures, and hassle our authorities instead? They were the ones who messed up, not us.

I still have not forgotten the case of the man who boarded a flight with a monkey under his hat, they did check his shoes and belt though

We Americans are a paranoid bunch, ain't we? I refuse to fly with these idiotic restrictions in place. Bad news for my travel agent.

I'm glad about this. I am so sick and tired of people bringing on so much carry-on baggage that there is no room in the overhead compartment for my bag. I fly with one bag only, and I don't like it taking up my leg room.

I really have to wonder who runs the TSA. Are they conniving politicians who implement these absurd measures in order to show they are "protecting America"? Or are they complete morons who actually believe this is real security?

Those new restrictions just took your one bag away. Now you get to check it through and have fun retrieving it from baggage claim.

relatively close Rabbi, but not close enough, he would always smuggle the dick licker onto a plane in his underpants, so as not to give those north Vietnamese long range tactical nuclear dickshaw bombers a target, it was a trick Dubya learned defending the skies of Texas against them.

I to fly with only one bag, and if I was sitting next to you it would be full to bursting

I think they believe the public are the morons, if you read the thread about arming pilots you may conclude they have a point
