Nope. The nuclear option or reconciliation should be used.

So never mind the fact that a majority of Americans are now against the bill as it is being devised, and that a liberal demo leader says scrap it, just steam ahead regardless of what it will do eh?

I have a question.

If the Bills passed by the House and Senate are assigned to a joint committee to work out the differences, can the joint committee add something that was not in either of the two bills?

Also, does the report from the joint committee have to pass in the Senate by 60 votes or just a simple majority?

Yep. Most people are against it because in doesn't set up a single payer system or at least a robust public option.

I think they can.

No, I think that after the initial cloture vote, it is simple majority.

And your basis for arriving at that conclusion?

I can't believe the Democrats are going to actually do this. LOL. I mean, I know they're Democrats, but still, this is amazing.

Almost 70 percent of the population is violently against this bill, but their pride won't allow them to let it go. The Republicans are going to mop up in November over this, then overturn it in 2012.

This is the true definition of insanity.

Re: Howard Dean: Health Care Bill 'Bigger Bailout for the Insurance Industry Than AIG

so how about it liberals? Should Congressional demo's "kill the bill"?

j-mac

I dunno. I am very torn on this issue. I didn't think Howard Dean did a good job as DNC chairman; however, he is a doctor, and I think he has some good inside knowledge about the health industry to make intelligent assertions. In other words, in this area, I think he has some solid credibility.

Re: Howard Dean: Health Care Bill 'Bigger Bailout for the Insurance Industry Than AIG

What's your basis for disputing it?

My basis for disputing your claim is that you can not possibly know what is in the hearts of ALL Americans concerning this.

Now, your basis?

But neither can you.

If the bill is going to completely make over the entirety of our system, and taxes levied start immediately, but the change doesn't, shouldn't we get it right?

Yes, I think we should get it right. So you agree with Dean?

No, I can't, other than viewing the same information that you and others view, ie: Polls, and commentary. But, I know that there are aspects that no one is even bothering to read, in a purposely cumbersome and lengthy bill, that takes over yet another large sector of the economy and changes it.

Also, the fact that when someone is pushing me to do something quickly without studying it, then something doesn't smell right.

I agree with anyone who says lets slow down, and get it right.

Of course it is. I've said from the beginning that anything our current government comes up for in terms of healthcare will be nothing more than a play to the insurance companies. People who think the government is somehow still beholden to us need to wake up. The Democrats aren't going to do anything which benefits us on the whole if it doesn't first benefit the uber rich and huge corporations which feed it. Neither will the Republicans. The quicker people understand this, the quicker we can get to work trying to change it.

I've said from the git-go that no matter who benefits from any sorta health bill, it won't be the people; especially the people who are going to have their spines pulled out with a truckload of new taxes.

The cost of health care coverage for your average person isn't going to do down. At best, it'll stay where it is and most probably will go up. It's naive to think otherwise.

Clearly defined by the example of Pharma coming aboard. Why can't we know the back room deal? I thought demo's wanted, and promised openness, and transparency?

Dude, the American people are overwhelming in support of health care reform in general and a public option in particular.

Does the Senate Bill require everyone to obtain health insurance? Does it provide subsidies for those with low incomes?

HAHAHAHAHAHA. I can't believe anyone bought into that lie. Like government is going to be more transparent. Ron Paul is trying to get a bill through that would increase the transparency of the Fed and you see all the bitching, moaning, and crying going on about just that (makes you wonder what exactly the Fed is doing with our money). Imagine if there was something to open up the backroom deals to us. Of course they don't want it know, I'm pretty damned sure that if we all knew exactly what those politicians were doing, we'd be setting up a Congress lynch mob right now.

Didn't Paul's bill clear the house?
