Houston, Texas elects first openly gay mayor

How can you be unaware? The radical right has been demonizing homosexuals for the last two decades. They have been perpetuating the myth of the gay mafia, the gay agenda, the gay lifestyle to try to scare people about gay people.
The reality is....it does work. All you have to look at is the money that the right-wing, namely the Mormons spent in California during prop 8 to spread their lies and alter the election. It was one of the dirtiest and most deceitful campaigns that I have seen in my life.

You're forgetting the role played by the black churches in that vote. Geraldo suggested a couple of days ago the latino vote was responsible for the failure of a similar law in new york just recently. What these votes mean is there is a majority opinion in this country that rejects the efforts of the democratic party and it's current liberal/leftist leadership to continue it's efforts at gaining political advantage from identity politics.

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_politics"]source[/ame]

Identity politics refers to political arguments that focus upon the self interest and perspectives of social minorities, or self-identified social interest groups. Not all members of any given group are necessarily involved in identity politics.

To participate in identity politics, a group may, or may not be marginalized class of people. However, group advocates will often have a self-belief, a self schema or explanatory narrative, that they are in fact a marginalized group. Typically, these group identities are defined in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or neurological wiring.

Minority influence is a central component of identity politics. Minority influence is a form of social influence, which takes place when a majority is being influenced to accept the beliefs or behavior of a minority. Unlike other forms of influence this usually involves a personal shift in private opinion. This personal shift in opinion is called conversion. This type of influence is most likely to take place if the minority is consistent, flexible and appealing to the majority.

You have a source? I am not seeing anything that backs up this claim of yours either, which seems to be a pattern. There is no way to know for sure the reason, but there is a definite correlation, which is what I am claiming.

And how you doing sourcing your claim that gays "are not created, to believe so is a fallacy"?

Not only did you not read my response to you in that thread, you didn't even read the article you claim is your "proof"

But as Savic herself acknowledges, the study can't say whether the brain differences are inherited, or result from abnormally high or low exposure in the womb to sex hormones such as testosterone.

How embarrassing you have to be shown what is in the very article you claim is evidence.

So then what happen in Maine then huh I know but I will wait to see what BS you come up with. Oh and for the record it wasn't the Radical Right nor the Mormans that caused prop 8 to fail it was the Black Church and Latino Churchs that where the major reason for Prop 8 to fail just like your discussion here it failed.

I don't really follow Maine politics, so I cannot really comment on that. However, it absolutely was the radical right wing and the Mormons campaign of deceit and lies that got Prop 8 passed in California. It was the lies that were financed in large part by the Mormons that misled many Black and Latino church goers as well as others. Expose those lies and Prop 8 would have failed by double digits.

That said....its only a matter of time. The polls are shifting dramatically.
What I though was a possibility at some point in my life, is something that now is inevitable within a very short time. There is no way that the radical right can continue to mislead the majority with their lies with the changing demographics and Americans becoming more and more educated and tolerant.

What was the greater disappointment for you? The fact that the "right" used lies to defeat ssm...or that so many people believed these horrendous lies and voted against it? You can lead a horse to water....you cannot make him actually drink. Why would so many people vote against this in a deep dark blue state where the 'right' has such a limited voice on every other issue?

Truth is, with all the facts known and the issue right there on the table for all to see, same sex marriage is absolutely crushed everywhere it's appropriately given to voters. Might it occur to you that most people in California legitimately oppose same sex marriage?

No...I've seen many dirty campaigns on boths sides of the aisle. That said...I have never seen anything on the level of deceit and money that was thrown out by the Mormons and other right-wing organizations to pass prop 8 in California.

Don't pretend this with the money thing, this prop was determined in the midst of the Obama campaign that saw unprecedented stratospheric levels of money much of it coming from abroad and all of the sudden campaign finance issues vanish from the media and Congressional plates, this selective outrage that you show here has become quite common. I'm gonna guess the deceit and money thing is your opinion, the deceit statement I don't consider credible, the money statement is downright false. This was a Nov 2008 defeat and one cannot pretend the "levels" of "money" they'd never seen, that's ridiculous, UNLESS...they're speaking about the Obama campaign 'levels of money.". It absolutely dwarfed the amounts by "Mormons and other right-wing organizations" and by a millionfold and more. Gonna play your cards and buy an election don't whine when the right uses the same tactics, hate the game, not the players.

I don't think it stood a chance, the unprecedented turnout for Obama in California increased the opposition to same sex marriage. The measure defeated soundly and fair and square with a referendum.

I would have thought that a blue bleedin city like Austin would have voted for a lesbian but Houston. But this is no surprize, Texas elected the first woman Governor of any US state, Hallie Ferguson 1924.

Also the first word spoken from the moon on July 20, 1969 was Houston.

The Heisman trophy is named for John William Heisman the first full-time coach and athletic director at Rice University in Houston.

Texas boasts the nation's largest herd of whitetail deer.

Austin is considered the live music capital of the world.

Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885.

The world's first rodeo was held in Pecos on July 4, 1883.

Texas comes from the Hasinai Indian word tejas meaning friends or allies.

The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.

Texas is the only state whose state flag flies as high as the United States flag.

Texas executes more sub human pieces of trash than any other state.

Texas has a higher proportion of beautiful women than any other state.

More professional football players (current and former) come from Texas than any other state.

Texas is better than any other state or any other place on the planet.

Texas music exceeds all other genres of music by far.

Texas men have larger...... well you know what they say, everything is bigger in Texas

Oh pul-ease. Open up your eyes. Do you HONESTLY believe that a gay person is going to make it through even a month in the military without having to lie about their sexual orientation.

If they say..."I'm not allowed to talk about it", THAT is grounds for dismissal under DADT.

Yes, what do you think don't ask, don't tell means? No one is allowed to ask about it and no one is required to tell. I know how the system works, because I was actully in the service. What unit did you serve in?

Sorry...but you are wrong. The numbers don't lie. The numbers have shifted dramatically over the last decade. Your side may have won the battles to this point, but the fact that you are losing the war is well known.

The fact of the matter is, Prop 8 was failing in California by double digits, until the Mormons began their campaign of lies. Yes...I am disappointed in the people of California that were guillable enough to be misled. But the reality remains. Those opposed to gay marriage are dying off. The younger generation overwhelmingly is tolerant and supports gay marriage.
For example, 10 years ago, gay marriage failed in California by a very large double digit margin. Today, that margin has all but evaporated.

Are you so naive as to believe that young men in the military never talk about women or sex? How long do you think a gay soldiers silence on those matters is going to go unnoticed.:doh

There are plenty of normal twenty something year old men that don't talk about women & sex.....
What are all of these 'lies' that supposedly turned the vote around?.....

By that logic, you must be livid about how Libbos demonize people. Right?

I spent 12 years in the Army. I'm speaking from experience. Did you have different observation when you were in the service?

Then, perhaps, military men aren't normal. It was just about all we could talk about when I was a sailor.

Won every battle to this point, you are correct. Furthermore, if and when we do stat to lose some of these battles, you've taught us the "lies and deceit by our opponents" defense.

The fact of the matter is, Prop 8 was failing in California by double digits, until the Mormons began their campaign of lies.

California hadn't ever passed a measure on this before? might you back this assertion please, I don't believe it.

Yes...I am disappointed in the people of California that were guillable enough to be misled.

Imagine my indigestion at this circus clown in the WH being elected, where W once stood for George W. Bush, it nos stands for wtf were you thinking on election day, America??!!

But the reality remains. Those opposed to gay marriage are dying off.

Actually you'll find many minority voters opposed in big numbers rather than age being a factor. And as this country's minority populaton increases, I tend to think same sex marriage has seen its high water mark and will die as an issue.

The younger generation overwhelmingly is tolerant and supports gay marriage.

Yes, the less experienced and less learned constitutents always drive ideals and reform movements, but...these idealists age, get married and figure it out. It isn't the only issue they'll decide their parents were correct about.

For example, 10 years ago, gay marriage failed in California by a very large double digit margin. Today, that margin has all but evaporated.

I thought you just said it had double digit support before the lies and decit changed everything, hey dd....pick a message and try to stay on it.

At least be consistent!

Then, perhaps, military men aren't normal. It was just about all we could talk about when I was a sailor.

It was meant to be sarcastic, I guess it doesn't come out that way.....:3oops:
Normal young men talk about women & sex constantly.....;)

Identity politics suck!

Then, perhaps, military men aren't normal. It was just about all we could talk about when I was a sailor.

When I was in the infantry, there were guys who talked abou ****ing on a regular basis. There were also guys who didn't. Not once did I ever notce anyone questioning them as to why they didn't participate in those conversations.

I think city leadership matters a great deal. For instance detroit used to be one of the most powerful cities in the nation. Decades of democratic party rule have had their effect. It's come to my attention there are now "possible" plans to buldoze whole sections of the city that have been abandoned.

1225880104_2aac0c6d77_o.jpg

Phoenix, AZ bulldozed whole neighborhoods and put in commercial stuff. like the rental car agency, all the rental car in the same huge building....but they still have LOTS of blight in the area....

Not that you would deceive anybody on the subject, right? Mormons are a very small percentage of the California population, and a small part of the combined effort to sway the results of Prop 8, but they are the ones being demonized by the gays. The Catholic church was heavily involved, and black voters played a large role as well...gonna dis the blacks now?

OH yeah, blacks and latinos listen to the mormons all the time....right?:2razz:

I think we all know the answer to that one.
