Houston, Texas elects first openly gay mayor

The study was never debunked. What has been debunked was the false premise that scientists claimed having actually found a gay gene.

They DID find a gay gene, and it spreads. When I woke up this morning, I looked out my window to find that every government building in Houston had been painted purple.

And my point is, maybe they don't care about "being gay" when voting for a Mayor. They are realizing that partaking in homosexual activity doesn't make you different. HUZZAH!

So, if you're not 'different' can you go up to the same window at city hall and apply for the same marriage license?

Sure they can. They just have to have a partner of the opposite sex to marry.

Just goes to show you that Houstonians are not the stereotyped hillbillies they are made out to be.

I've always found Houston to be a surprisingly progressive city with superb restaurants and nice, down-to-earth people. I'd take it hands down over Dallas any day.

So will al of you heterophobes stop spreading the lies and trying to make the rest of into some freaks because we speak the truth.

Being a homosexual is an easy way out of having to deal with the reality of differences in the thought processes and other qualities unique in the make up both men and women. For the most part women are more emotional while men are more pragmatic and work from logic. Of course no blanket statement holds true in every case but generally men get along much easier with men and women with women.

I have 4 bothers one decided to be gay because he couldn't deal with the emotional roller coaster being married became for him.

I'm anti gay because its not normal and if it were it wold not take both a man and a woman to create a new life. And don't give me any of the B.S. about how science can now create life, because that's wrong too.

I don't hate gay people and would not jail or beat them up. By the same token they need to stop trying to promote their life style choices with lies. If it were genetic why is recruitment so wide spread and boisterous and militant?

That was the biggest bunch of ignorant drivel ever posted on this subject.

I think it's the homophobes and bigots who need to get better educated about hard-wire personality traits like sexual identity and sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is a hard-wire personality trait -- a function of genetics, brain development and PRENATAL issues.

Same-sex attraction has nothing to with nurture or development. However, how you express your natural attraction to one sex or another (aggressive, subtle, etc.) is a function of upbringing, development, etc.

Councilman, was it one of your younger brothers who was born homosexual?

The most conclusive studies about homosexuality have found patterns in families that have multiple boys where one of the younger brothers is homosexual--suggesting prenatal issues, changes in the mother's body when she has more than one boy and a possible undetected prenatal virus that effects brain development and sexual orientation.

Homosexuality is not a choice.

You need to spend more time in Houston then. Progressive? Not really. A growing population of poor minorities, increased crime, and a passion for hand outs? Yes.

There is a reason why outlying suburbs like Friendswood and Katy are growing at an alarming rate (Webster was until Katrina brought the riffraff).

Ms. Parker's orientation should never have been a focal point. She did push it. She needed to. Her background is fairly weak. While I wasn't a fan of Mayor White's occasional douchebaggery especially with the sanctuary city or Chief of Police debacles I don't see Mayor-elect Parker having the fortitude that White showed during the Katrina reimbursements, Ike re-building/preparation, nor some of the frivolous racial lawsuits.

The place is turning into a circus. Could be worse. We don't have whiny college kids taking over our college dorms. With the multitude moving from California..who knows.

Needs to be ALOT more research before you can make a statement like that.

Uh-oh....

That's gonna leave a mark.

I think its been well established where the majority of the funding came from. But if I get the time, I will do a search and post a link.

Yes...I lived in Utah for 25 years. Born and raised there. Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-Mormon. In fact, I often stand up for Mormons. There are a lot of good things that the Mormons do. On this particular issue, though...they were dead wrong and I'm very disappointed that the Mormons would engage in the type of lies and deceit that surrounded the yes on 8 crowd. Lying is lying whether you believe the greater good of your cause is just.

what lies? they are against gay marrisge, that is their right assuming that marriage is more a religious issue than legal......
Utah just passed a law supported by the LDS church establishing equal rights for gays.
I have yet to hear anyone give a good explanation as to what rights gays do not have when it comes to civil unions vs. marriage...

The law in Utah only dealt with housing discrimination. Nothing more.

As for the rest of your post...I have no problem with the Mormon church being against gay marriage. I have a big problem with them influencing an election, contributing tons of money and hiding behind their tax exempt status.

I have a huge problem with them spending huge amounts of money spreading lies such as "it would be required to be taught in schools"...."Children will be taken to homosexual weddings", Churches will be required to marry gay people even if it is against their teachings.....all lies....and all that were the focus of the prop 8 crowd.

BTW....the marriage v. civil unions is moot. The court has already held that "Seperate but equal" is not equal/fair or constitutional.

Housing only? got a link? The Logan newspaper must have gotten it wrong....strange, I heard none of the lies you talk about....not in Utah anyway. Guess you had to be in California.
No church can be required to do any such thing, even the most simple minded dolt knows that. That kind of thing sounds like gay propaganda aimed at making the religious folks look bad. Granted, there are SOME who are nut cases, but they would be nutty even if they weren't LDS. I know baptists and catholics who act that way as well. They are a small minority within their groups, just like the small amount of gays who make up stuff and vandalize churches to fuel gay paranoia.

What do you think the new law encompasses? I'm not saying I'm right, but I still read the two SLC newspapers on line every day and my understanding is that the law was simply an anti-discrimination in housing law.

As for the second part....I'm not surprised that you didn't get coverage of the deceitful campaign in Utah. But that was the entire Yes on 8 arguments here in California. All lies...that you are correct, you would expect most people to understand...but when you have slick ads that run constantly because of the funding put behind the ads, you can convince a lot of people.

Your third point...I agree. Religious "nuttry" is not limited to Mormons....it runs through all religions and to the left as well.

Again...as I said before...I am not dissing the Mormon church..other than their extremely deceitful campaign here. The mormons do many many MANY good things in the world...as do many churches. But there are many bad things that unfortunately are often part of religions as well.

While we have not found proof that this is the case, there is lots of circumstantial evidence.

True, while we haven't found a "gay" gene, it is extremely unlikely there is one. There are probably numerous genes that working together create that trait. Genes that also do other things. Saying there's no gay gene is like saying there's no gene for height which would be correct as there is a concert of multipurpose genes that control one's height. Doesn't mean we aren't coded for it.

The notion that it isn't genetic is somewhat absurd given electroshock experiments. Once the treatments stopped, people went back to being homosexual. Essentially they curtailed the behavior our of fear, but once the fear removed, nature went back to normal.

Why?............

You still don't get.

I was saying that generalizing all people of a political lean is stupid. Its like me telling you that "all conservatives are dumb" which is false and is an unnecessary extreme.

That only thing that you emboldening the word "liberal" on my profile shows me is that you can read. Good for you.

Wasn't the LDS the one's who brought us Donny Osmand and Osmand Brothers?

I will never forgive them for that.

Yea, that was the biggest screwup in the history of science. Scientists DID find a purple gene in some people, and attributed it to gayness, when it was actually a desire to be royalty.

Do you think before you post? If people don't care about gays, then gays have won, and will be able to do things like marry and serve in the military.

They didn't care in this election. Just roll with it.
