Virginia Veteran Wins Battle to Keep His Flagpole in Yard

Then don't buy the house with an HOA agreement. It is simple as that.

I know. They act like someone it putting a gun to their head and FORCING them to buy the house.

This is not the fact at all. You may fly a flag, just not from a free-standing flagpole.

Virginia law forbids an HOA from NOT allowing an American or one of the armed forces flags to be flown.

That's not in dispute. The flag pole was the problem.

That may be so, but my point is that the argument was never about flying a flag, it was about the pole.

It's a purely legal issue, does his CMOH change his legal status?

Flags require flag poles. PERIOD.

The HOA bastards can **** off and die. They are trumped by the law. They can like it and chew glass.

Go away, you don't know what the **** you're talking about.

They don't require vertical ones and if the HOA had the rules in place that prohibited them and the guy bought his house with the agreement that he would follow those rules, that's his own problem.

Yet again, this is an example of someone entering a contract and AGREEING to follow the rules of the contract and then breaking them.

Hey, I don't like speed limit laws, so if I were a CMOA recipient that should mean I don't have to follow any laws or contracts right?

IMO HOA's should be illegal and anyone who is on the BOD of an HOA should be DOA.

Yes. They can choose to not enforce the rule, and obviously are now, and should have from the beginning. Medal of Honor winners are few and far between. Less than 3500 in the history of the award, according to [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_of_Honor"]Wiki[/ame] (that should say 'Wiki' for the link name, I don't know why it's being changed by the website software ... ), and 1522 of those were for the Civil War! Beyond that, many times the Medal is bestowed posthumously ....

The Homeowner's Association should be honored to have a Medal recipient in their neighborhood, and his advanced age should be cause for even more respect.

This is the one of those situations were the law is on the side of the accuser, but they don't have to be a d*ck about it

Did the old man win this one?

I am glad to hear this, I heard this story on the radio, what this man has given to these spoiled brats, it really broke my heart.

Go away, you don't know what the **** you're talking about.

I am former military. A flag is NOT flying properly if it is not on a regulation flag pole.

That is life. Deal with it.

We know you're a right-wing pro-HOA person. It's ok. We forgive you.

Stop supporting HOA criminals. They are all scum.

The man is CMOA recipient. They should have respected for this. Instead they chose to attack him for it.

It seems to me that the members of the BOD of the HOA must be liberals.

HOA covenants are bull****.

Then don't buy a house that comes with HOA covenants. It's really very very simple, Vader.

Dead on Arrival? You're disgusting.

What kind of a person feels the need to be exposing their flagpole willy-nilly?

LOL Vader, as American said, you don't know what you're talking about.

That's it. Vader is on ignore now. Grow up, dude. Anyone who served in the military should be embarrassed to serve with someone who would make such a ridiculous comment. Shame on you.

the fact that they seem to want to regulate everything seems to point to bereaucratic conservatives

No, shame on you, aps, for not having the courage to stand up to them.
