Virginia Veteran Wins Battle to Keep His Flagpole in Yard

Nazism does not mean what you're using it to mean. Please stop skull-****ing the english language, kthxbye.

Actually, in the context I using it ... it does.

Also ... cease your support for Reich-wing HOAs.

Please define Nazism as you're using it.

As I am referencing it, the HOAs, are behaving as the Nazis did during the precursor to WWII (1933-1937).

As such, the reference is correct and frighteningly accurate.

Obviously you know little about real Nazis.

Compared you reiche-wingers ... probably not. Then again ... you people would vote to send debtors who can't pay to a concentration camp.

Right on, Allen Feldman (he wrote this letter to the Washington Post regarding this veteran).

Why sympathize with rule breakers?

I find it interesting that there were two articles on the Dec. 10 Metro section front about people who think they are above laws and rules. . . .

The second gentleman moved into a development that requires permission for flagpoles. He disregarded the covenants and put up a flagpole anyway. But since he is a battle hero, a retired Army colonel who single-handedly took on three Nazi tanks in World War II, that should make it okay.

Now you have a situation where all residents in that association can challenge its rules, because, if you let one person get away with it, then everyone should be so entitled. . . .

Why sympathize with rule breakers?

Except for the fact that Feldman, like the other rieche-wingers, is wrong.

That HOA did not have any specific guidelines against flagpoles. As such, they had no case.

Your side lost. Deal with it.

And how are HOAs acting similar to Nazis?

Their outright assault on a 90 year-old veteran based on their narrow view of asthetics is nazi like.

There was no rule against it but that went after him because it suited them to try and force their views on that vet.

That is naziilike. The nazis forced their view of a perfect aryan society on Europe during WWII.

The comparsion is valid.

They lost. Local law prohibited their attack on the man in question. He is LEGALLY ENTITLED TO HAVE A FLAG AND A FLAG POLE.

The far right neo-nazi HOA dickheads lost. Stop defending their sorry Nazi asses.

I am one of those far right Conservatives my left wing friend and I could not be more happy with the decision to let this hero fly his flag........I fly one and so do most of my Conservative friends....I know of very few left wingers who do......I wish everyone flew the flag in their yard.........So much for your thinking on the subject my left wing friend.........

If you fly a flag, I salute you. I proudly fly a flag! I think everybody should.

I still do not understand why the HOA in question was so nasty to a bona fide hero.

What was the reason given by the HOA as to why they were so "nasty"?

The HOA claimed it was a violation of their guidelines; however, their guidelines did not contain anything about flagpoles. As such, the HOA clearly went out of their way to force themselves on a 90 year-old CMOH winner.

It's just disturbing.

I think what people are missing in Vader's postings here, is that he seems strongly against the HOA here. I applaud that. I think that HOA's are wholly UN American in nature, and although Vader rarely takes positions that I can get on board with, this seems not one of them, and my conservative bona fides are well known here and other places.

I am glad that the HOA lost, and this man that deserves our respect was allowed to keep his flag.

The HOA guidelines do NOT have to address flagpoles. I feel pretty confident that their guidelines are similar to those in my Virginia community. It says that NO one is to change the exterior of their house without prior approval from the HOA. HOAs can provide a list of acceptable changes that would not require prior approval. For example, exterior light fixtures. My association has a list of approved exterior light fixtures that do no need prior approval. However, if someone wants to deviate from the approved light fixture, he/she must seek prior approval.

This guy never sought approval for his flag pole before he put it up, which was a violation of the rules. Period.

Yes, they do, or the HOA has no right to complain. The law works both ways. If the HOA does not state that flagpoles are not allowed, it is logical to assume they are and that no approval is required.

The HOA lost.... by backing down after their gimp lawyer got her ass handed to her by a US Senator.

For the record, I am not now, nor have I ever been a left-winger. That is more reiche-wing rhetoric designed to attack those who are not reiche-wing supporters.

The problem is however Navy.....you guys have very little understanding on what it means to be a true patriot. Patriotism is sooooo much more than waving a flag.

LOL...tell that to Rick 'man-on-dog' Santorum

"What I'm asking all of you tonight is not to put on a uniform. Put on a bumper sticker. Is it that much to ask? Is it that much to ask to step up and serve your country?"- Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA.)

Yes, officer, I was driving at 90 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Why do you have to be so anal in giving me a ticket just because I broke the law?

Speeding can be a danger to other drivers. I fail to see how a flag pole harms others.

Hoist your colors, sir! You earned it! Drive on!

Its nice to see that a little media attention exposing the homeowners association for being anti-American douches can change some minds. Personally I would never live somewhere where my neighbors can dictate what time I can and can't mow, what decorations I can use or some other nonsense.

I know many liberals, who have went to war and died for this country, and I know many liberals that would die for their country. And, I know many that display their patriotism on their sleeve as you do.

I also know many conservatives who refused to go to war or to die for their country. I also know many conservatives who don't fly a flag, pray in a bible, etc.

I also know liberals that are anti american, and I know conservative facist groups that are anti american.

The thing about all this is that many veterans don't mind either way because they put on the uniform and protect this country, so liberals and conservative can have these beliefs. When me and mine choose to serve, we did not care what either group felt.

Pidegon hole charactures are made by those who refuse to see past their own beliefs.

Haven't we beat this horse enough? :beatdeadhorse
