The argument I was making was two fold.

#1 The attitudes towards gay marriage is progressing towards making it legal. This is supported by the fact that 30 years ago gay marriage couldn't even get on a statewide ballot.

#2 Saying that AIDS is the gay disease or that god will destroy the U.S. if it makes gay marriage legal is ignorant, intolerant, and nothing more than fear mongering.

Sorry you don't like the facts.

Do you agree that if Gays and Lesbians opted for Civil Unions with the same rights as Hetero marriage and just dropped the word marriage they'd have gotten it this year, or at least gotten closer?

Prolly the same if those that wanted interracial marriage wanted to opted for civil unions instead of marriage they would have gotten closer sooner.

Says you. I haven't known any gay people personally that choose to live the lifestyle of being outcasts and ostrasized by society simply because they choose to love someone of the opposite sex instead of just being straight.

Fact remains that gay marriage continues to proceed closer and closer to being legalized and people like you are going to have to deal with that just like those that were against interracial marriage had to deal with a white and black person marrying each other.

Its doesn't matter how many gay people you personally know.

It has never EVER been proven to be genetic in even 60% of any study that looked at homosexuality in general.

Sure someone will find some twin study and think thats proof but never ever has there been a general study that finds even common traits let alone genetics in 60% of homosexuals.

Its lost in every single state its been voted on.

You are going to have to face that as well.

Well, if you examine the margins on defeat of gay marriage bills over the past 30 years, they've gone from universal staggering defeats to barely scrimping by. Prop 8 was passed with a mere 4.2%.

On November 3rd [1998], voters in Hawaii vote 69% to 28% to amend the state’s constitution to empower the legislature to reserve marriage to opposite sex couples. This vote nullifies any positive ruling by the Hawaii Supreme court, effectively allowing the state legislature to ban same-gender marriage.

I'm not arguing that gay marriage has gained ground. I'm arguing using the "ignorant, enlightened, and tolerant" argument to debate someone.

And for the record, I have no problem with civil unions.
