New York State Senate Votes Down Gay Marriage Bill

Homosexual marriage...

is gay.

but aside from that, I don't see why someone, in this case the Gays, who know what they are asking for/demanding is so controversial (Right to get "Married" not just Civilly Unified or Domestically Partnered) won't settle for some in the middle legislation. Can anyone else see how many 'controversial' issues in this country we could avoid entirely if we just met in the middle? But, that's a tall order for a place like America I guess.

Gay Marriage: Don't give them "Marriage" but allow whatever union they get to be legally recognized as marriage by the State, Employers, Insurance Companies, etc.

Abortion: So long as it's not endangering the Mother's life, and/or the Government isn't footing the bill, who cares what someone does with their body.

If someone pays their taxes and doesn't step on anyone else's toes, I don't see why they can't do what they want to. Far too much stress is being put on all these issues that blow them WAY out of proportion and call down massive debate ****storms that bring into account all number of references and talking points and we're still essentially stitting here with our thumbs up our asses.

"Life isn't fair. It never will be. Learn to deal with it or cheat the System."

That being said, I'm only for gay marriage if both chicks are hot.

does tiger support the sanctity of marriage amendment? i know mark sanford does...or did.

the first amendment is merely a minimum requirement.

libertarians against freedom and democracy or who are for limited freedom and democracy. i see.

Sooo...anyone have a link to the bill itself?

I mean, as a pro-lifer I've opposed anti-abortion bills based on the merits and flaws on the bill. It's certainly possible that pro-gm did not support this pro-gm bill due to some critical flaw in the bill. For all we know support for gay marriage is as strong as ever.

Navy since you've already read the raw text of the bill itself to then come to DP and pose an opinion on it, could you please provide the rest of us with the link you already used to read the bill?

DebatePolitics.com is not a democracy.

well, i am posting on this website from inside the united states which is a democracy and has Constitution with the first amendment.

Another nail in the coffin of Gay Marriage Disney Dude...........

ALBANY — The New York State Senate decisively rejected a bill on Wednesday that would have allowed gay couples to wed, providing a major victory for those who oppose same-sex marriage and underscoring the deep and passionate divisions surrounding the issue

The 38-to-24 vote startled proponents of the bill and signaled that political momentum, at least right now, had shifted against same-sex marriage, even in heavily Democratic New York. It followed more than a year of lobbying by gay rights organizations, who steered close to $1 million into New York legislative races to boost support for the measure.

Now the homophobes and bigots can come out to play because the world is again safe and christian and whatever else they've cooked up in their angry little heads...

And by 'little', I mean these people are stupid beyond stupid...

Yeah and the server is in the US also, as is the Admin, most of the mod team and the majority of DP's member population.

That doesn't make DebatePolitics.com a Democracy.

but it means you are in a nation which sees the first amendment as merely a minimum requirement of freedom and democracy.

so we have about 4500 body bags so debatepolitics.com can have rules that go against the spirit of freedom and democracy.

I am only interested in the point that a very liberal democrat controlled state gov. voted down a bill to that would allow gay marriage....

The 1st amendment is a limit on the actions of government.

DP, DP rules and DP mods are not part of the government (though some of the Mods have a God complex ).

So, the 1st amendment doesn't apply here.

no libertarians should be posting here then if they really believe what they say they believe in. instead, this place should be full of netnazis.

the limit would be to protect freedom and democracy. indeed, other authorities within the usa should follow that shining example.

the true definition of a troll: someone who you can't compete with intellectually so you censor them.

You can argue "should" all you want -- fact is, the 1st doesnt limit the board, the rules or the mods. This is a private organization, and your association with it is voluntary.

You're getting better, troll. But you're still not any sort of good. Go back to /b/ and get some tips.
