Bush reacted very well to the incident and called it what it was, an attention getting action.

I agree with American's comment that Bush handled himself well. First, he did an amazing job dodging the shoe. Second, I liked how he found humor in the whole thing. I remember feeling warmly about him....that one time.

Yes in your and my eyes he "handled himself well" by not only dodging the shoe but making a light moment out of a tense situation.

However that was never the goal of the shoe thrower. It was a pure insult towards Bush and the US and people like American and other americans seem to gloss totally over this and make fun of a whole culture. The fact is throwing a shoe at someone and showing the soles of ones shoes is a huge insult in many cultures, just not in the west. In fact I would almost claim half the world sees it as an insult.

So sure ignore it, but it was a huge insult against the US president... basically around the same as calling Bush's mother a whore and his twin daughters for prostitutes.

Oh, I knew it was a huge insult against him. Frankly, I couldn't blame the guy for being so pissed off.
