I heard this on the radio this morning and got a kick out of it.
If you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day.

If you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

So sure ignore it, but it was a huge insult against the US president... basically around the same as calling Bush's mother a whore and his twin daughters for prostitutes.
It's not insulting if you don't believe in that custom. I mean just because it may insult me doesn't mean it will insult you. So even though it may may have been an insulting act in that country, Americans percieved it just as it was, a thrown shoe, he could have thrown a coffee mug and it would have had the same effect. Just like the Islamic cartoons, they find it extremely offensive to the point of violence, I personally think some of them are down right funny.

I agree fully. However that does not change the intention of the shoe throwing and what it symbolizes in that part of the world and other parts and that is my point.

That's pretty much how I feel about the shoe thrower, and a few other select folks around the middle east. It seems only fair this guy would get this treatment.

The OP story is funny - but that picture is even funnier.

It is ironic. That's the part I love about this story. Now, I'm wondering if this incident will get the same endless coverage as the original one.

I'm wondering whether the shoe thrower will serve any time in jail.

I must say, it looks like this journalist ultimately benefited career wise from throwing a shoe at Bush. Now he's a big shot who gives press conferences in Paris!
