Donald Rumsfeld blamed for failing to kill cornered Osama bin Laden

Re: Rumsfeld let Osama get away

The SecDef should be more worried about his boots on the ground and the overall strategy.

Let's see. Why did we send our troops to the region?

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

:doh

For you to think that Rumsfeld should be sitting in his office waiting for blow by blow report only about bin Laden is silly and/or disingenuous.

But didn't President Bush say that "THE most important thing" we must do is find bin Laden? Didn't he say it was our "number one priority?"

If Rumsfeld ignored the President's prime directive (and it seems pretty clear he did) he should have been removed from office immediately following the Torabora screwup.

Of course, we know now that putting bin Laden out of business never really was the president's number one priority. It's been documented that Bush had a giant hard on for Saddam Hussein and wanted to invade Iraq since well before 9/11.

The Bush administration has concluded that Osama bin Laden was present during the battle for Tora Bora late last year and that failure to commit U.S. ground troops to hunt him was its gravest error in the war against al Qaeda, according to civilian and military officials with first-hand knowledge.

bush was the commander in chief at the time. and he claimed to be a war president. and his own administration says it was the administration's fault apparently.

That 20/20 hindsight is really something..... let me know when you can turn it into 20/20 foresight, and we can clean up at the roulette table.

Re: Rumsfeld let Osama get away

The notion that a person born of a foreign father with dual US and British citizenship could be a Natural Born Citizen is as strange as a women with three children claiming to be a virgin.

are you a birthernut?

well, bush knew that osama did 911. they knew osama was in tora bora. they knew the warlords should not be trusted.

the bank robber knew he might get caught. well, he didn't know for sure so we can't hold him accountable.

There's no need to fear, a Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld distraction is here.
