Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist

Unless they have changed it E1 thru E7 take a test for promotion...They not only have to pass the test but beat the quota....In other words you can pass the test and not get advanced.......E8 and E9 you go in front of a selection board and your record is the deciding factor........At least it is that way in the Navy........

E4-E6 Navy, chief on up you go before a board. E1 you get for signing your name, E-2 and E-3 I believe are based on time served, and doing some stupid coursework.

If he committed those offenses, he should be prosecuted. If convicted, he should be punished.

I hate to admit it, but there are some scumbags in Special Forces, just like in any other occupation.

NO, absolutely NOT!
The detainee fell down, if hurt worse, he fell down a flight of stairs. These things happen. This is American servicemen we are discussing, not perfect, but they do the job. And they must be cut some slack - this is a war zone...war is hell...

Are you saying that E4 thru E6 go before a board?

Yes very similar in the Air Force. There are quotas for E ranks as well as for offficers. In the AirForce the Senior Master Sgt E8 and Chief Master E9 go before a board. The enlisted need to get through NCO school to get above E5. Officers have proficiency ratings and yes your record is key. It is said that those from the Academy get preference but I think that is only for General Officer.

NO, to get E7 and above it's a board, E4-E6, it's points, based on test, time in service, decorations, evals.

Or at least it was.

I believe that in the AIR FORCE we gave the exhaulted rank of E2 if a trooper made it through basic. E 3 if a trooper was part way through a long tech school or survived a short one without an Article 15. That's what ?CAPTAIN'S MAST for you NAVY Types ?

I degress as usual..sorry !!!

"You rock, here is a stripe"....

The Good Reverend, heard that twice. ;)

Stripes for Exceptional Performers (STEP)

Air Force Enlisted Promotion System (Page 4)

Thanks. I think we sorta has something like that, where skipper of each command could choose one person for promotion each cycle or year. I got out 17 years ago, so I am finding my memory on details back then not what it should be.

first one I got was because I was a fast burner but didnt make the 5 (journemany) requirments before deployment..... The 2nd I got was when I was in the gulf and could not make it back to get the 7 "craftsman" rating required for promotion, though I was teaching everyone how to use thier equipment while remaining over seas. ;)

If I am remembering this right, the one guy I remember getting this was a gay guy. This was pre-DADT, we all, including the skipper knew he was gay, but he was the skippers right hand yeoman. The jokes almost wrote themselves.

Rewd keeps getting stripes and she will soon be a "zebra" .. That is what the E8 E9's were knicknamed in the AirForce. Oh well AirForce had one stripe per E RANK from E2 - E9 so zebra sounded right - ok you had to be there. Now Navy enlisted you guys have stripes and that archor symbol if I recall so there is not a one to one stripe.

Oh well it's late and I am on duty station to cause havoc in the insurance industry tomorrow !!
