No. My point is that "the Brittish" are not seeking to extend their control of Ireland, this control has receded dramatically over the past century. Most people on the mainland wouldnt care if NI united with if that was what those living there wanted.

What? You mean the war of independence?, the same war that resulted in the Irish becoming independent? Doesnt seam like a defeat for the Irish for me.

They took one sixth of their country, that doesn't seem like a win to me.

Again, why not allow Ireland to be whole once again, if the brits there don't like it, they can go back to their own country?

Again because the northern Irish have lived their since before your country has existed and have no less of a right to self determination then you do. How do you deport an entire nation? And why bother when the current set up is working and has the consent of those on both sides of the border.

While it is alarming that it was again the same empire that caused this great war as well, it is not true that there was any vote, this is a lie.

You can drill down nationalism as far as you want. The Irish want independence. Except for those in Northern Ireland. Except some Catholics in NI who do - so give them their own little state inside NI. And on and on. At some point, you have to just stop and make a country. Maybe you stop with a whole Ireland, maybe not. But you can't just assume that Ireland, or any country, is composed entirely of people with all the same desires and national feelings.

Look at the Balkans. The Croats wanted their independence - but not the Serbs inside Croatia. And on it goes.

Funny, the northern english, they don't seem to be getting along so well today, or in the past. I am not sure what you are referring to, where is this peaceful working relationship you are suggesting exists there?

I am sure they do not all agree, nor do we here, that is why we have a democratic vote, they should be allowed the same opportunity there.
