Obama says Guantanamo prison to close "next year"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Wednesday he believes the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, can be closed next year, but he acknowledged that he will not meet his original January deadline.
Obama said he was not disappointed that he would not meet the one-year deadline he set upon taking office last January because, he said, "I knew this was going to be hard."

He made the comment in Beijing in an interview to be aired on Fox News Channel's "Special Report with Bret Baier" later on Wednesday.

"We are on a path and a process where I would anticipate that Guantanamo will be closed next year," Obama said, declining to name a specific date for when the prison will be closed.

The Obama administration has had difficulty in closing the prison because many U.S. lawmakers are deeply reluctant to transferring the prisoners there to the United States.

It wouldn't take so long if people were so afraid of Terrorists being on US soil, even if it is in Super-Max prisons.
 
Anyone want to go on a vigilante kick? I bet we can throw some kickbacks to the guards and just slaughter them in transfer...we can make them look like accidents.

It sure didn't sound like that on your campaign trail. What a bunch of crap.
 
I am thinking Obama is going to get a wake up call if his plan to have all the charges against KSM dropped is successful. There should be a backlash against him by the people who just may very well take it out on their Liberal Reps in the House and Senate, kicking a great number of them to the curb to express their displeasure.
Obama made a statement I believe was calculated to give defense attorneys more fodder to use in their requests for dismissal of the charges for tainting the jury pool by insinuating the guilt of KSM before the trial begins. Add that to the part where he was not read his rights or given access to and attorney, has been denied the right to a speedy trial and list goes on, and KSM couldn't have been given a better break than a trial in NY.
Obama might just have to rethink bringing 229 bad guys here and letting a lot of them go to some other country.
The is no logical excuse for what Obama and Eric Holder are doing, and what they say doesn't hold water as anything but doublespeak. They claim to be applying justice knowin full well they are laying the ground work for dismissal of all the charges or for the juries to have Muslims on them and at that point conviction is impossible and they know it. \
Obama is doing everything he can to get as much passed so he can be so entrenched by election time next year he will have more power than you are going to believe. That is why from no on every Rep. in the House and Senate needs to know we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it any more, starting with the "Obama I Don't Care About Your Health Bill in the Senate.
