I won't be. I'm going to do my job and insure that my kids have proper care. Even as a civilian I have plans in place if anything happens to my kids's mother and/or myself. Insurance policies, savings accounts, land deeds, etc. I take parenting seriously, call me crazy.

i am amazed at your lack of empathy here. if the woman could afford insurance policies and savings accounts and own land, she probably wouldn't be in the army, protecting US.

so much for supporting the troops.

There have been single parents in the military for quite some time. Some of them have been in tight spots like this. The difference is they worked with their commands.

She has a half million dollar plus life insurance policy on her AWOL ass, right now. It costs her less than 10 bucks a month.

Bottom line is, if she couldn't take care of her kid then she either shouldn't have spread her legs and spit a puppy, or she shouldn't have joined the army. You're right, I have zero empathy for her irresponsible ass.

Tight spot - sure, they suck. She was fortunate to have a heads-up before deployment, time enough to plan for it.

What would have happened if she was called up on shorter notice and only had a few days (happens all the time)? (I would be more understanding of a short-notice deployment rather than her current deployment that was planned out in advance, btw).

Your support for your children is detailed. The military tells you to have plan A and plan B.

She didn't even have a plan B - and there we go. . .you might think it's excusable but you've never been in the military or deployed. There's a lot more to deploying a soldier than you're aware of.

I don't go that far - the father is obviously out of the picture. Perhaps they were together and he bailed? We don't know. I'm not drawing conclusions beyond the regulations.

If you haven't experienced setbacks and negative attitudes from an employer or other such based on your femininity or maternity status then you're lucky.

I, however, had dealt with it alot in my life and my various career choices - the actions of one can strongly alter other people's perception and response.

If this wasn't true then we wouldn't need affirmative action and support for women in the workforce, as well as legislation that ensures fair-pay. We're far from "equal" to many people and this case is an example of why.
no, things are not equal. and it's my thought that we should support women in their endeavors, not castigate them.

really, spiker, you are projecting a negative attitude onto this soldier and we don't even know the full story. and i still don't understand why this is embarrassing.

again, this is a single parent situation, not a single female parent situation.

Well, she knew when she was out their ****ing that if she got knocked up, that she would more than likely have custody of the kid. Therefore, the current situation in on her head. There's no excuse for this.

What you really mean to say is, no matter how stupid a woman acts we need to excuse her, just because she's a woman. Right?
