Illinois Officials Push Plan For Terrorism Suspects

Here's one way the Democrats plan to grow the economy:

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin on Sunday tried to build support and counter criticism of a proposal to sell a prison in rural northwestern Illinois to the federal government to house Guantanamo Bay detainees and other inmates.

Federal officials are expected to visit the maximum security Thomson Correctional Center, about 150 miles west of Chicago, on Monday.

Both Quinn and Durbin said the possibility of selling the prison to the federal government was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help create about 3,000 jobs, both at the prison and directly in surrounding communities in an area where unemployment has topped 10 percent.

"We have an opportunity to bring thousands of good-paying jobs to Illinois when we need them the most," Durbin said at a news conference in Chicago, one of several Illinois stops Sunday. "We have an opportunity to bring them to a part of our state that has been struggling and that's an opportunity we are not going to miss."

Critics, including Republican members of Congress from Illinois and GOP candidates for governor, have been quick to condemn the prospect of the sale because of safety concerns.

GOP gubernatorial candidate Andy McKenna said Quinn's plan to cut spending and create jobs includes bringing "terrorists to Illinois."

So, instead of detaining them indefinitely in Cuba, we'll detain them indefinitely in Illinois, assuming Dirtbin isn't run out of the country first. Meanwhile, it will be a lot less messy in the future if we administer due process by having Predator drones deliver Hellfire missiles into civilian homes, killing everyone present. That way Obama will be upholding American values.

I think something like this is a political gift to Illinois. The fact is that there are a lot less dilapidated prisons in other states which aren't being used. They could be converted over to prisons for these people a lot easier than it would to remodel and improve the jail currently being looked at. But using that prison would mean that the State would receive considerable money to bring the prison to operation level and means jobs and other income into the State because of it. It seems suspect to me that an older prison which fell into disrepair and happens to be in Illinois was picked over the many prisons in Michigan or Colorado or the other places which could be used more easily and with less money to house the criminals.

This could very well be a strictly political decision tied directly back to Obama but we will never know unless someone talks.

he State of Montana has a new prison facility that is empty and located in a rural location and they offered first. The Montana Town That Wanted to Be Gitmo - TIME As I looked at this story I noticed noticed the picture of the concertina shows it's still shiny & bright.

Since Obama is hell bent to bring the GITMO 229 here, there should be a competition over their ultimate location and the loser gets them based on the cheapest location and operation based in part on local wage scales.

Maricopa County Sherrif Joe Arpaio could be hired as a consultant on their treatment. They'd get pink boxers and green bologna. He'd recommend they live in tents. That would make these guys feel at home don't you know.
