Chavez to troops: Prepare for war with Colombia

President Hugo Chavez on Sunday ordered Venezuela's military to prepare for a possible armed conflict with Colombia, saying his country's soldiers should be ready if the United States attempts to provoke a war between the South American neighbors.

Chavez said Venezuela could end up going to war with Colombia as tensions between them rise, and he warned that if a conflict broke out "it could extend throughout the whole continent." "The best way to avoid war is preparing for it," Chavez told military officers during his weekly television and radio program. Venezuela's socialist leader has also cited a recent deal between Bogota and Washington giving U.S. troops greater access to military bases as a threat to regional stability.
The government of Colombian President Alvaro rejected what it called "threats of war from Venezuela's government," saying it would protest Chavez's comments to the Organization of American States and the U.N. Security Council.

"Colombia never has, and never will, make an act of war," said government spokesman Cesar Mauricio Velasquez. He did not elaborate on Colombia's plans to bring the issue to the OAS and the United Nations. Colombian and U.S. officials have repeatedly said Venezuela shouldn't be concerned about the base deal since it is aimed exclusively at boosting the fight against drug traffickers and insurgents in Colombia, which is a major cocaine producer struggling with a decades-old internal conflict.

Re: Chavez to troops: Prepare for war with Colombia

I have wondered for while if the claims of incursions by Columbia into Venezuela were real or part of a Chavez orchestrated propaganda campaign not unlike that used by the NAZIs in 1939 Poland. But I don't hear what could be described as vehement denials by Colombian President Alvaro.
We read about FARC using the border between the two for resupply and this story of four men on motorcycles shot and killed two Venezuelan National Guard troops at a checkpoint near the border in Venezuela's western Tachira state. These stories all fall into line with unsubstantiated stories that could be set ups and propaganda.
I can't imagine Obama doing anything to help depose his pal Chavez or helping anyone against any Anti-American forces anywhere in the world. Hell he can't even call the War on Terror what it is because it might upset his fellow believers. Just look at Obama's reaction or should I say Non reaction to the terror attack at Ft. Hood. What did he say? We should not jump to conclusions or words to that effect. It was clear what it was to Americans.

The Messianic Speech Writing Team and Teleprompter Puppeteers are working over time preparing for the industrial strength apology the Messiah will utter when his friend in Venezuela attacks Columbia.

Troops will be sent only if it appears Chavez is losing, to help Hugo.

I have to disagree with this much of what you said because Obama will not lift a finger to help our own troops in Afghanistan who are fighting for us.

That's perhaps true, as there isn't socialism of any sort present in Venezuela at present. There's perhaps an approximation of social democratic capitalism, but public ownership and management of the means of production has not been implemented.

Feel free to refer to the politico-economic structure of that country as "Soviet style communism," except that communism wasn't present in the USSR because money, markets, and the state were not abolished, and the state capitalism of the Soviet Union isn't present in Venezuela because of the reliance on cooperatives and decentralized economic management. Other than that, you're spot-on, though.
