Everyone is equally poor in communist countries.

    Hence why it wins elections.
I havent heard of many communists winning a fair election.

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index]List of countries by Human Development Index - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]* That wee green arrow next to venuzuela should point you in the correct direction.

Also have a look at this article

    http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Ve...rianRevol.html

*Venezuela has been declared free of illiteracy by UNESCO
    * Infant mortality has been significantly lowered
    * 70 percent of its citizens now have free health services in their communities
    * Almost half the population is studying
    * Poverty dropped to 37 percent in 2005
    * The economy grew by 9.4 percent in 2005, the highest in Latin America, with most of this growth occurring in the non-oil sector (increased by 10.3 percent, while the oil sector increased 1.2 percent)
Now you show me some evidence that the elections are inadequate.

You see the arrow pointing upwards? that marks an improvement in a countries human development index. I.E the situation as regards the criteria the human development index assesses*, (such as those i mentioned) has improved. And if those stats arent enough for you then i refer you to the stats in the thrid world traveller article. If you did not wish to insinuate that the elections where inadequate then what exactly was your point?

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an under-developed country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life. The index was developed in 1990 by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq and Indian economist Amartya Sen.[1]

I fail to see why a .011 gain is somehow important.

What election are you talking about?I never singled out any election.

Thats in one year, give credit where its due.You think all this is unimportant as well ?

Any election you want, it was you who insinuated they were indequate, if this was not what you insinuated then what was your point.

Now you show me some evidence that the elections are inadequate.
The good 'ol days, when they were close buds.

LOL... I'm writing this as they're showing the last in a long line of failed former Commie leaders... bird s**thead Gorby...

Ahh... now they've flipped to Prague and the tanks coming in to save the masses.

PS. You forgot full employment and equality.

Now everyone, off to the rice paddies.

HEY! Where are you lot going?
No, no, no... to the Gulag for you guys.

Does North Korea enjoy full employment too?
    Thought so.

Have you lived in a former Commie country? Just curious.
I think waiting in long lines to buy whatever is inside, because there is a long line would be fun.
You go to the counter... go to another counter with a slip of paper to get whatever, then you go pay.
That's how you get full employment. 3 people doing the work of 1/2 a person. Doing things as slow as they can.

I think waiting for a phone for ten years would be fun too.
Sure would cut down on all that consum'in goin on.

As for Chavez. I hope he tries a swift one. Then we'll have three wars going on.

Good thing you mentioned it; you're always so insightful.

As noted by Robin Hahnel, "the Venezuelan economy deteriorated during the 1980s and most of the 1990s. From 1998 to 2003 real per capita GDP continued to stagnate while the Chavez government survived two general strikes by the largest Venezuelan business association, a military coup, and finally a devastating two month strike by the state owned oil company. However, after Chavez survived the opposition sponsored recall election, annual economic growth was 18.3% in 2004, 10.3% in 2005, and 10.3% in 2006, and the unemployment rate fell from 18.4 % in June 2003 to 8.3% in June 2007. Moreover, most of the growth was in the non-oil sectors of the economy, as the oil sector barely grew during 2005 and 2006. While this impressive growth would not have been possible without the rise in international oil prices, it also would not have been possible had the Chavez government not ignored the warnings of neoliberal critics and pursued aggressive expansionary fiscal and monetary policies."

Would you like to add a rebuttal to that? I dont recall having EVER defended the Soviet Union or North Korea. Espicially not over the prague spring in which i would side with the Czechs.
