It was?? I must have missed all the "touting" by the New GOP, whatever that is.

Where do you come up with this crap from???

Have you not been following the news. Its all that they have been talking about for a couple of weeks.
Palin endorsed the "conservative"....they were talking about how many on the right thought Newt was wrong for endorsing the Republican.....

Don't know how you missed it.

Cheney: I Pick Rush Over Colin Powell - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

"Well, if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh, I think," Cheney replied. "I think my take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."

"So you think that he's not a Republican?"

"I just noted he endorsed the Democratic candidate for president this time, Barack Obama," Cheney said. "I assumed that that is some indication of his loyalty and his interest."

"And you said you would take Rush Limbaugh over Colin Powell."

"I would, politically."

Naw Rush doesn't influence the party politically in any way shape or form.

And last week Rush was out boasting the he created Glenn Beck.

LOL, wut? A hyperbolic comment meant to demonstrate disappointment with Colin is now some prosecution of the idea that Limbaugh has influence.

You're delusional, pal.

Name one lefty commentator who has such infuence over the current VP?

To say nothing of the fact that Cheney was only making the choice between the two presented to him by Schieffer. Cheney didn't pull Limbaugh out of the blue.

Cheney On Limbaugh: "I Love Him" (VIDEO)

CommentsMany Republican leaders have squirmed lately when asked about Rush Limbaugh, fearful of angering the conservative talk show host but not willing to endorse his most incendiary remarks. Not so Dick Cheney, who offered a full-throated defense of Limbaugh on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday:

Q: What next for your party? There has been a big dust-up in recent days, in parts stoked by the White House, about Rush Limbaugh making some comments. David Frum, a conservative who worked in your administration, says that Rush Limbaugh is kryptonite, because he drives away the voters the Republicans need to build the road to discovery. Is Rush Limbaugh kryptonite?

CHENEY: No, Rush is a good friend. I love him. I think he does great work and has for years. He's now offered to debate President Obama on his radio show. Hell, I'd pay to see that! It would be interesting to have developed.

Republicans See Gingrich, Cheney, and Limbaugh as Their Spokesmen - Robert Schlesinger (usnews.com)

A majority of Americans and a huge plurality of Republicans drew a blank when Gallup asked them who speaks for the GOP today. The best news for the Grand Old Party out of this poll is that the sound of crickets is a better answer than the two names that most often came to respondents' lips: Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh.

Here's the breakdown from Gallup:

So you wanna point me to anything in that which indicates Limbaugh influenced Cheney or had any power over the party?

I am saying that only idiots and bipolar halfwits fail to realize that Limbaugh and Beck are nothing more than entertainers and pundits. Anyone thinking they have any real political power is either wishfully thinking or a deluded partisan hack of either stripe.

There is only one stripe that follows the commands of Beck and Limbaugh, and they all vote Republican.

Don't let him suck you into this irrelevant discussion about Limbaugh and Cheney - it's a red herring, and meant to distract from yesterday. Powerline summed it up best with their "Top 5 lessons from yesterday" (edited for length by me).

1. The "independents" or "moderates" get it. That is, they seem to understand that the Obama agenda and those allied with it are bad news for the economy.

2. The era of succeeding by running against George Bush is over.

3. Intensity counts.

4. Far from being a post-racial figure, Obama is the most racially polarizing politician since George Wallace.

5. Goldwater 2.0 is underway. That is, the Republican Party, which, in domestic policy, had been all but emasculated by Bush's playing kissy-face with welfare state and corporate liberalism is into the process of discovering that conservatism is its heart and its salvation.

Should this continue, Obama and those who wish to further such policies, their days are numbered... after just 9 months.

So nothing to refute the points made in this thread? Just another trolling expedition?

That's what I thought.

I know Palin endorsed Hoffman, and many conservatives thought Gingrich was wrong for endorsing Scazzi, as I did.

What I did not see on the news or any where else was a "touting" of a New GOP.

Who are the ones calling for the GOP to shun the moderates and move the party to the right?

And you actually believe this is a GOP initiative??? I'm not sure what to think about someone that believes a radio talk show host can command a major political party to do as he pleases. Perhaps you've been reading Daily Kos or DU too much.

Who are the ones calling for the Dems to shun moderates like Lieberman and move the party to the left?

You cannot deny that there is a large faction of the GOP that are urging the party to move to the right....just as there are those on the left that would love to see the Democrats move to the left.
However, the difference is, those calling for the GOP to shun moderates and move to the conservative base have been much more vocal about it.

GOP big whigs all piled into the 23rd, endorsing Hoffman ('cept for Gingrich!). Hoffman said Beck was his mentor. Perhaps he was just watching the regular news

As to who the Dems should go for: examine the vote in VA. The base of the Dem party collapsed and did not turn out to vote for the least progressive candidate fielded this election season (Deeds).

A "faction" and the party leaders are two very different things and have no relation to each other.

Did the GOP leadership endorse Hoffman??

Who are these so-called GOP big wigs?? Did Michael Steele endorse Hoffman?

The question is.....who leads the GOP today?

Many who are viewed as most influential endorsed Hoffman.

Where would Dick be without Rush?

Who? Sarah Palin, Tom Pawlenty? Dick Armey?

You consider these three the most influential people in the GOP?? Keep thinking that.

Did the RNC endorse of contribute money to Hoffman?? Of course not. You are being silly.

Who would you say are the leaders of the GOP today?

You don't think that there is a HUGE portion of the GOP that look to Palin as their party leader? (I think Jallman would disagree with you).

Dick Cheney would be a retired V-P, just like he is now.

Rush Limbaugh would be the highest paid radio talk show host in America, just like he was before Bush/Cheney were elected.
