CommentsMany Republican leaders have squirmed lately when asked about Rush Limbaugh, fearful of angering the conservative talk show host but not willing to endorse his most incendiary remarks. Not so Dick Cheney, who offered a full-throated defense of Limbaugh on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday:
Q: What next for your party? There has been a big dust-up in recent days, in parts stoked by the White House, about Rush Limbaugh making some comments. David Frum, a conservative who worked in your administration, says that Rush Limbaugh is kryptonite, because he drives away the voters the Republicans need to build the road to discovery. Is Rush Limbaugh kryptonite?
CHENEY: No, Rush is a good friend. I love him. I think he does great work and has for years. He's now offered to debate President Obama on his radio show. Hell, I'd pay to see that! It would be interesting to have developed.

A majority of Americans and a huge plurality of Republicans drew a blank when Gallup asked them who speaks for the GOP today. The best news for the Grand Old Party out of this poll is that the sound of crickets is a better answer than the two names that most often came to respondents' lips: Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh.
