Don't get me wrong....I don't much care for moderates or independents, but I recognize that politically, they hold most of the power.

Not much to argue with there. The Indy's certainly showed Corzine who's boss didn't they?

It was a huge defeat for those on the far-right that are trying to get the GOP to adopt the shun the moderates and shift to the conservative right strategy. The fact that that strategy was defeated in a district that was so strongly conservative and GOP does not bring much hope to those who want to spread the strategy to the nation as a whole. In many ways D-23 was a test case and it failed miserably for conservatives.

A defeat? Yes it was. "A huge" one? Well, no so much....See, Hoffman came into the race late, was hugely outspent, and was for much of the time up against two liberals in the race. That he got as far as he did I think proves the lesson that the country is getting fed up with being told to go along, or if not being told that they are just too stupid to understand what is taking place right now. If you want to make hay, and put all your eggs in that one small basket, you are welcome to, but just a word of advice, this may come back to haunt you.

How could a "liberal" win in a district that even a moderate Democrat couldn't come within less than 35 points of the Republican for the last two decades?

Dude....you are in serious denial here.

The whooptiddoo that libs are making out of a NY race, geez I didn't think we had a seat up there. WTBFD about NY, it's liberal heaven. We just got two governorships. That's two more states that won't impliment socialism from Washington.

I actually view this as a victory for the conservative movement that is attempting to oust the NEO CONS, RINOs, and others with less than conservative attitudes in the Republican party. Scozzafava was FLATLY rejected even though she had a "R" on her jersey. If the support for Hoffman had come a few weeks earlier, I believe he would have won. Hopefully is sent a message. If you aren't going to be conservative, don't expect support, EVEN if you have the "R" on your jersey.

How anyone can view this as a victory for conservatives is completely cuckoo

Scozzafava by any definition is a liberal. Owen won simply because he was wearing one of the popular party jerseys. If the RNC had supported Hoffman from the start this would have been a completely different election.

Yes....the message that was sent was that the GOP can't win on a conservative agenda even in a largely conservative/GOP district.

    Scozzafava wasn't conservative.
