True....defeats in the two Governor races is a disturbing sign for Democrats as well....but if you look across the nation, Democrats picked up more seats overall than Republicans. So it was kind of a wash either way. Good signs for both....bad signs for both....but IMHO.....really bad news for any hope that the New GOP strategy is going to succeed if they don't learn their lesson from this.
I'm not concerned at all. I think the real lesson from last night was that Democrats are gonna have to do three things to keep their place:

    1) Realize that Barry ain't gonna help get them re-elected, no matter how many international commitments he shirks to go campaigning for them.

    2) They are gonna have to create jobs, not just talk about creating jobs.

    3) Control this spending and increasing debt problem they have.

If those don't happen, we are gonna have Republican control again and maybe, just maybe this travesty that's been going on for the past nine months will get cleaned up a bit.

Why not? It's what you guys did all through the late 60's into the race of '76 before you learned your lesson. And you guys seem to be doing ok today.

Rather optimistic coming out of an election where the best you can argue is a couple of governorship wins.

I do agree though that the Democrats stand to lose a few seats if we don't see big improvements over the next year....that is.....unless the New GOP continues to try to push this failed strategy of theirs.

Uh-huh. A couple of governorship wins seems pretty unimpressive until you realize they were a couple of governorship wins, incumbent governors losing seats and seats being lost despite a high approval president campaigning furiously for them.

You can keep thinking its still coming up roses for the Dems, but I am gonna be really interested to see if they are able to control Leiberman and other blue dogs after this sting.

Democratic leadership has nothing to offer to them now...the draw was that BHO remaining with high approval would help get them re-elected when the time came. Now they're seeing that Barry is a one trick pony and the hope and change fever isn't transferrable to their campaigns. It's only a service to Barry. So now when the leadership wants something like support of a health care package, there isn't anything drawing the Dems to capitulate to the leadership instead of their constituents.

Mark my word...the democrats are gonna start breaking ranks. Barry's "Yes We Can" message just became "Yes I Can, and the rest of you are on your own". Or at least that's how the dems up for re-election are gonna see it.

A defeat for the GOP??? I guess all the news I read and saw was wrong. I heard Hoffman represented the Conservative party, not the GOP.

I could have sworn it was a defeat for the Conservative Party, but maybe you get different news than I do.

Where have I argued that everything is rosey for the Dems?
You are going to have to look long and hard Jall...in order to find it.

I've said that there are troubling signs for the Democrats.....but I think there are even more troubling signs for the Palin/Beck/Limbaugh branch of the New GOP.

That "Conservative Party" was the strategy being touted as the New GOP by the right-wing of the party. They were hoping to spread this strategy to the nation. That prospect looks rather bleak at this point.

There is no Limbaugh/Beck branch of the GOP. Limbaugh and Beck have not ever, nor ever will be political candidates.

Sarah Palin, understandably, still has a devoted following.

True....however, Limbaugh, Beck and Palin have all been arguing that the party needs to shun moderates. Palin vowed to campaign for candidates that would adopt this new GOP strategy. Her efforts failed big time.

    As I've said before.....many times:

So are you saying that neither of those insignifcant people are not mouth peices for a certian section of the Republican party who virtually lives of their every word?
