AP: Christie Gives GOP Stunning Win In N.J. - wcbstv.com

By Defeating Corzine, Former U.S. Attorney Deals Big Blow To President Obama, Who Carried The State Easily In 2008
In the end, all the stumping in the world from the President of the United States wasn't going to stop regime change in New Jersey's highest office.

Republican Chris Christie ended Democrat Jon Corzine's four-year run in Trenton with a narrow victory on Tuesday, The Associated Press projected. Independent Chris Daggett, thought of by many as the wildcard who could upset the order of things by siphoning off votes from Christie, finished well back.

With 4,507 of 6,305 precincts reporting, Christie led Corzine 50 percent to 44 percent.

Independent voters gave President Barack Obama a huge advantage in the state last year, but they heavily favored Christie on Tuesday.

Gosh looks like Obama wasn't much help here.

Looks like Obama's rockstar persona is not enough now.

Not sure how much of this has to do with Obama. I'm just astonished that Christie was able to overcome Corzine's natural advantages. Fantastic news.

Natural advantage...you mean millions?

You are right this has Zero to do with Obama and everything to do with Corzine himself..

For people to jump to the conclusion that Corizine was defeated so it's Obama fault...is nothing short of thinking that the whole political machine runs in some kind of Herd mentalilty. It doesn't.

Baa, Baa, Obama won so should every Dem hence forward Baa, Baa........

I like Republicans in the mix. Rather than focus on "yeaaaah we won!"... let's see what you do with it.

You can bet your sweet ass that if Corzine had won, that it would b a validation of America's acceptance of the Librul agenda.

Bull...don't believe everything the media tells you Apdst.

At this point the Republicans could win a three legged race at some picnic and the righties would claim that is a sign of a defeated Obama.

Yeah. And Obama could be blown out of the White House 70-30 in three years, with Pelosi and Reid in tow, and "the Lefties" (*cough* not mentioning any names here *cough*) would dismiss it as not being a "real" rejection of Obama, or Democrats. Probably racist, in any case.

What else could happen Harshaw? Is this like some kind of football game to you or something?
We live in the Present and the President is dealing with Present day problems, but by all means let's conjur up wild assumptions about what the Repulican wet dream would be for their failed party based on one race. Focus on what is important for the Present day America for a change.

Yea, the fact that he outspend Christie on ads and that NJ has a heavy Dem tilt in overall registration.

I really thought Corzine would pull it out, even though most pundits yesterday said no. Congrats to Christie supporters.

From what I'm hearing he turned off people by spending some of those millions on attack ads.

That is something Obama chose not to do in his campaign.

1. obama spent more time in camden in the last two months than he did at camp david

2. in new jersey's suburb of philly, just across the delaware river, obama said on sunday---we will not lose this election if all of you are as committed as you were last year

3. well...

4. new jersey, one of the darkest blue states in the nation, swung 22 points towards the reds in a year

5. red is the ruling color, in trenton, in richmond

6. new york 23---go ahead, trash palin, help yourself, all you want---LOL!

7. meanwhile, CONGRATS! nationwide to republicans everywhere, wingnuts, rhinos, all the way from joe wilson to omnipresent olympia snowe

8. virginia, the most swing state in the US (florida in 2000, ohio in 04, virginia in 08), transformed TWENTY FIVE points since last november

9. a QUARTER of the electorate

10. bid bye bye to bluedogs

11. float a farewell to libs, on crucial issues like health care, cap and trade, afghanistan...

12. garden state GOP'ers overcame every possible disadvantage---corzine's cash, a third party threat, a clumsy candidate

13. christie comes across as a competent prosecutor, but concerning economic, budgetary and fiscal fluency he's inarticulate

14. mcdonnell, on the other hand, is a stud, a great candidate and arrived superstar

15. so many new VA gubs and senators are instant stars, like wilder, allen, webb, warner...

16. VA is like that, the most critical commonwealth in today's union

17. the thrill is gone---the youths, the blacks---they just did not turn out

18. the anti-obama coalition, in contrast, is RED HOT

19. i've never seen my side of the aisle so energized in my incredibly long, politically observant life

20. health care's dead

21. the REPUBLICANS are the majority party

22. mcdonnell ran an extremely rightwing and national campaign---he focused on cap and trade, health care, bailouts, stimuli, taxes, spending, deficits, card check

23. he ran an ad accusing deeds of "dithering" on taxes

24. he couldn't have campaigned harder against dc's current occupant this side of debating the dummy

23. current governor kaine, another onetime hotshot, is sitting chair of the dnc

24. mcdonnell is hardline wingnut---his thesis, his graduation from pat robertson university

25. virginia didn't care, she was equal parts smitten with the knuckle dragger and repulsed by the insufferably arrogant CHIN in the white house---reference mcdonnell's focus on deficits, cap and trade, health care, bailouts, stimuli, taxes and spending...

26. CA's in play

congrats to all concerned

Obama's a one termer.

Well if he gets two the second one will be a hell of a roller coaster. Dear leader is taking it easy on us now as he is worried about reelection.

There is still much damage to be done between now and then.

Obama's a one termer.

Conservatives also said Obama wouldn't be president. Many conservatives are still wiping the egg off their faces from their own failed predictions.

Still too early to tell if he will be one term or not. It matters what the economy is by 2011.

Dear leader? Are you still spouting that sophomoric term. Isn't it about time some conservatives grow up?

Your right, we didn't think America would be so stupid. However, I can't really blame the country for being put off by John McCain... uhg.

Mistakes happen, 2010, we start fixing them, 2012 we fix the big one.

obama has done an absolutely magnificent job of educating this country

an electorate that couldn't spell p-o-l-i-t-i-c-s last november, now, every senior in the nation can tell you just about every page of those 1990 concerning health care

cuts to medicare and medicaid, mandates upon individuals to buy for themselves, fines on businesses, taxes on small biz, mandates on bankrupt states, 10 years of revenue vs 6 years of benefits, open-to-interpretation language about abortion and illegals...

americans are extremely aware of what's going on with health care, in afghanistan, concerning cap and trade

we know all about tarps and bailouts and bonuses and stimuli

olympics and nobel prizes

obama has done an absolutely excellent job of educating this electorate

gotta give him credit for that

Prof is this thread about Obama losing in a STUNNING defeat or is it about Christie winning a STUNNING victory?

They also said the ex-gov would be VP...more egg..

They are one and the same.

The huge story in both Virginia and New Jersey is the incredible shift in the Independent's vote. They voted overwhelmingly for Obama, but have now swung over and voted 2 to 1 for the Republican candidates.

You can bet that Obama and other Democratic leaders are not having a good morning. This has terrified and given cover to blue dog democrats so that they will feel compelled to vote against health care reform and cap & tax. They now know what will happen to them if they vote against their constituent's wishes.

Yeah, this babbling didn't address what I said at all, not to mention the "football game" comment being awfully hypocritical.

By the way, the defeat of Barack Obama's agenda IS important for present-day America. :2wave: The election results last night will help do so, much as you'll howl that they don't mean anything.

I really don't care if he is a R or a D. Good luck to him.
