BBC NEWS | Europe | Russia cargo jet crash kills 11

A Russian cargo plane has crashed in the far-eastern Yakutia region, killing all 11 crew members on board.

The government plane had just unloaded its cargo at Mirnyi airport. It took off and crashed 25 km (15 miles) away, Russian state media reports.

The Ilyushin came down in a deserted area and there were no casualties on the ground, local officials say.

A special commission of the Russian Interior Ministry has left Moscow to investigate the cause of the accident.

"After being unloaded the plane... took off but then deviated from the course and crashed 25 km away from the runway," an official from the Russian Emergencies Ministry told reporters.

Bodies of the 11 crew members from the interior ministry plane have been recovered from the crash scene, reports say.

This is becoming a serious issue with Russia there Cargo Fleet is aging very fast and maintance is very poor, this is the 5th Il-76 to be lost this year.

One of the notable failings of the Soviet Union was their technology which on the surface seemed in many ways to equal the west or even surpass it in some areas was that it was in many cases slapped together with the use of old and new methods in manufacturing. Jet engines for example were built that could push fighter planes to reach astounding speeds but only for a very short time and the engines had to be either rebuilt or replaced because of poor metallurgic content. They built cargo planes capable of lifting extremely heavy loads then over loaded them on a regular basis taxing the structural integerty of the aircraft.
These factors along with the aforementioned maintainability are major factors in all Russian equipment from the planes to their Subs many of which are rusting into oblivion in places like Murmansk.
It's another symptom and result of the Socialist/Communist with a completely failed economy and making do with what you have because you can't do better.
Then again it could be a simple as contaminated fuel.

Is there any quality oversight for Cargo jets in Russia?

Yes and No while the Russian Air Force does an alright job on certain stuff in general most of the Russian Air Force is in need of major over haul. As far as the Civilian stuff well it's hit or miss. Let's put it this way I would never get on anything Russian Builded Airliner stuff.

I am not shedding any tears for the Russians who dies since I do not wish to be a hypocrit. I do agree that I also would not fly on anything built by Russia, the old defunct Soviet Union, or for that matter any former Svoviet Republic's aircraft.

Oh don't get me wrong the Russian build some rugged aircraft, but you need to keep them up. I've got a few hours in both Mig-15 and 17s but mind you these are ex Polish and Chinese aircraft. The best Warsaw build aircraft are from Poland and Romania pure craftmens involved in these Countries.

My Dad used to own a An-2 that came out of East Germany not the best thing going but you couldn't kill it trust me I tried a few times ;)

I did not think that the Soviets let the Poles or the Roumanians build MIGS. Even on licnse. I do believe that the Poles were allowed to build some training and light utility and light transport aircraft. The Czecks were allowed to build training aircraft that I know.

I know that the ChiComs were allowed to build MIG -15'S and Mig 17's .

I will check on the Czechs and see what the POLES did. I will be very surprised if the Poles were allowed to build MIGS.

The Polish Build Migs-15 is consider the best of the Countries that build the 15. They are the one who improved the duel control version by bumping the rear seat up a few inch's giving the instructor a better view.

Most of the Migs were build by WSK-Mielec and went under the code Lim-2/Mig15bis
