Nothing on this? It was news yesterday.

Maybe he was foreshadowing things to come. Maybe he truly hadn't decided whether he wanted to continue to run. Or maybe he's a good actor.

If San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom knew earlier in the week that he would be dropping his bid to be elected governor of California, he never let on.

ABC News spent the entire day last Monday with Mayor Newsom from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., a day that included a staff meeting, a visit to the projects, a press conference on the H1N1 vaccine and a quick stop at home to see his newborn baby, before running to a campaign event and lingering to answer every question.

During the entire day, Newsom spoke repeatedly about his desire to be governor, however long the odds.

"We need to do more," Newsom conceded but said he thought he could eventually raise enough money to stay competitive.

"The history of primaries is very fluid. It doesn't bother me at all," he said in an interview Monday. "We'll catch up."

Four days later, late Friday, he announced he would throw in the towel.

There was apparently a lack of knowledge of Newsom outside of the Bay Area and consequently, an inability on his part to compete for the Democratic nomination with former governor and current attorney general Jerry Brown, who's running for governor again. I will say that the primary exposure that those of us in the South had to our friend Gavin was constant repetition of a rather annoying speech of his during the campaign that involved the referendum to outlaw gay marriage.

I voted against Proposition 8, of course. But hearing that speech made me want to vote for it, regardless of what it was...I just wanted to vote against whatever Newsom was promoting. :rofl

While this is good news for all of California we can hold out hope that Meg Whitman the RINO will also drop out and a true conservative will run.
It is important to me that who ever runs be interested in saving the farmers of the Central Valley and in doing so save not only the California, economy, but national food supplies, jobs, taxes, and more. This could be done simply by use of a hatchery to insure survival of the damn Delta Smelt so the water can be turned on.
Meg Whitman doesn't care about the economy and is in favor amnesty for illegal aliens who are draining State resources and taking jobs that force out people who would do those jobs, It also keeps wages low in some professions.

Newsom is pretty much useless as anything.

Good news for California? Are you serious. Now its going to basically be either Brown or Feinstein....neither of which holds a candle to Newsome in terms of bringing new energy to the state.

Sorry....but there is zero chance that a "conservative" is going to win California. The only way would be if they ran as a "moderate" and fooled the electorate to the socially conservative agenda....ala Wilson.
