Justice concludes black voters need Democratic Party

With leaders like Jackson and Sharpton, I fear many blacks will continue to believe that the only way they can prosper is by believing that most whites are racist, and need to pay reparations for past offenses through govt programs.

Lerxst, what is the Justice Dept. sending as a message?

Are you suggesting that several folks here have misinterpreted the nature of Coon County's post?

I think I found the ruling. I'm not sure what the article says about the ruling, but the OP certainly mischaracterizes it. IMO the reality is much worse

Basically they're saying that white people are racist, and won't vote for black candidates. If you include the party of the candidate, though, white people will vote for the black candidate without knowing it because they just choose straight party ticket. Since black people are the majority of the voting-age population (even though they're ususally a minority of the electorate), it's obviously unfair if the candidate they like (but don't vote for in sufficient numbers) loses. Therefore, removing party labels will cause white people to actually look at the candidates and, since white people are racist, cause the black candidates to lose, which violates the Voting Rights Act. The reason it violates the VRA is that making white people aware of who they are voting for has the effect "of denying or abriging the right to vote on account of race, color or membership in a language minority group"

Absolutely ridiculous

Wow, that's just absolutely terrible.

There are not typically any ads for local races in my city of around 60k. I doubt there are any in a town of 15k. We also don't have party affiliation for local races on our ballots. It bugs me, I wish they did.

Then how do you find out who's running for some position? No newspapers? Nothing on local radio or news? Nothing at all? Town hall meetings? Anything? Pamphlets?

In my village of 1500, which is part of a town of around 8k, there are tons of ads in the village paper. There have been letters to the editor going back and forth for weeks, and a week before the election, the paper prints a copy of what the ballot will look like.

This time around, the big controversy is over the Town Justice seat. There are two candidates - one who is not a lawyer at all, and thus will have no idea what the hell he's doing, and one whose "firm" has served as the town lawyer for years, who will thus have a conflict of interest on 90% of cases. Thank god we don't have a rational system where state judges are actually appointed based on merit.

Oh Jack I hate to tell you this but go and pickup any West End Newspaper or the Portland Phoenix or The Hill Newspaper and you will find plenty of ad's on local political folks.

Beside in Portland it's pretty well know who belongs to what party ask me and I can tell you if what party that person belongs to.

And your correct most local election in Maine don't have party affiliation the reason for that is when Maine became a State they took a few good Mass. laws one being local elections wouldn't be muddy up by party affiliation. Maine isn't the only New England State that does this so does NH,VT,Mass,RI, ask yourself what is the commen thread in these States.

So basically what the Justice Department is saying is that blacks are too stupid to vote for who they want unless it has the word "democrat" on the ballot....how F'd UP is that?

Amazing how the party of the KKK has become "the party that black voters need". And republicans who were once viewed as the party of black people got smeared as racist by the party of the KKK.

That sums it up fairly well. It is an illustration of why Democrats promote the failed agendas they promote; because they know an informed electorate is their worst enemy.

But what is really amusing and what Obama and Democrats are really saying is that only THEY can help the black community and no one else; now that is really f’d up and laughable. It begs the question, what have they done for the black community other than make them faithful wards of the state since 1965?

By eliminating the party classifications, one would have to become MORE informed and actually read up about the candidates. MY thinking is that for many voters, this would be too much effort and they would stay home which would also have an impact on the Democrat Party.

Your response to Kal'Stang's post should clear up any doubt about where you mind is at. You are a pathetic racist. This forum would do well if you were to simply leave for good.

Obviously you have no clue what the word "racist" means and it is apparent that Vague doesn't either. This statement cannot be concluded to be racist, it is merely describing what the poster believes must be the state of mind to make such arguments in the first place. Let me help you with your comprehension by highlighting the key words here:

I suggest that those who recklessly hurl the "race" card become familiar with the definition of racism first so that they don't abuse the term like they have so many other terms.

I find your efforts to race bait in this thread offensive.

Main Entry: racism !rA-+si-zum

Function: noun

Results

1. 1a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2. 2racial prejudice or discrimination

Are you suggesting that several folks here have misinterpreted the nature of Coon County's post?

Let's review what he posted:

"Pathetic, but true"

It was in agreement with the thread authors post. Logic suggests that if you believe this post has racist connotations then you must believe that the thread authors also contained racist comments.

But as illustrated above, it is obvious you have no clue what racist means. But what the hell Lerxst, why don't your derail another thread into the basement with your baseless claims and off topic rants?

:2wave:

You obviously haven't read any of Coon County's other posts or paid much attention to him. It absolutely was racist just as many of his other posts have been around here. Perhaps you should try to stay on topic instead of trying to be hall monitor and derailing the thread. Just a tip. :2wave:

The Reps and the Dems have swapped sides of the political fence over the last 150 years.

Also, the political affailation and label of "Democrat" also helps the zealots on the extreme right to identify those they wish to demonize, insult, and preach hate against without having to put a lot of thought into it.

So, ya see? It works out for the white folks too! :rofl

That door swings both ways.

I cannot express how ****ing glad I am that I had absolutely no hand in the election of the current administration. ****ing racist bastards.

Further, I cannot express my confusion as to why they are "for the minorities" when they have just proven that they think blacks are ignorant, racist, and lazy. They've made it clear they think that blacks vote ONLY based on race (apparently no other reason they would vote for someone), they're too lazy or apathetic to go to the polls to elect the people they supposedly want so badly, and they're too ignorant to realize how retarded their "party" thinks they are.

The administration thinks that education and awareness are detrimental to blacks, and THAT is extremely telling. You can't get much more racist than to hold ideals like that.

We have had this conversation before Rivr, but it is my contention that you had MORE of a hand in it than you want to believe you did; as did many other Americans who voted for third party candidates in an effort to remain ideologically cleansed or were fooled by the "Messiahs" message.

;)

I would be just as unhappy with ****tard Palin in office. My candidate pulled out.

:rofl I am sure you would have been and are very consistent; I am just trying to help you see "REALITY" rather than steadfastly be an "IDEALIST."

But you are still very young; with time we typically grow out of our idealism and deal more with the realities of daily life.

Did I think McCain was the best candidate; HELL NO. I didn’t vote for the PUTZ in the primary. Did I think Palin was the best Candidate; HELL NO, but she has more brains in her little pinky than Biden.

The CHOICES I had based on the REALITY that it was between Obama the post turtle of inexperience and “foot-in-his-mouth” Biden, I determined that even the “I want everyone in the media to love me and will say anything to get their love” McCain was a better choice than giving the Democrats complete reign in our Government.

I lost a bet with someone on this forum over the election; I actually thought that the American people were too smart, based on their disappointments with the previous administration, to actually elect a Democrat President with the morons who are currently infesting and in charge of Congress; I was wrong. Americans really were that stupid; and now they shall reap what they sowed.

From the newspaper, my local paper usually runs an election guide before election day, with major issues and positions, etc.

There's a local group that's taken to endorsing voters in local elections the last 6 yrs or so. It was originally called the League of Pissed Off Voters, now they go by League of Young Voters. But they interview all candidates, and make endorsements, or refuse to endorse anyone, in local races. Even if I don't agree with what they say, it's useful to read.

On its own the post is not racist.

But what about that Justice Dept.? What a logic these people use. Us "cowards" just aren't up to their level of thinking.

They are absolutely 100% absurd, but fitting for the administration it comes from. I expected incompetence, but not absolute idiocy.
